Uh....nothing will change, just components of the OPERATING SYSTEM. Your data will still be there.

My Girlfriend did it, and nothing happened to her computer.

5 of my PC's did this in the past 2-3 weeks. Absolutely painless. I also made my own slipstreamed XP SP3 installer CD and used to redo an older machine I have. Installed and runs flawlessly.

If you're using Zone Alarm, do some googling and turn it off. There still may be an issue there, I don't know.

Vista's great, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it as an upgrade to a machine spec'd out for XP.

I agree, I just enjoy me a smart***.

Anyone with at least 3 gigs or ram can run Vista smoothly, any extra just makes running multiple processes that much easier. I have 6 gigs and it runs SO much smoother than XP ever did.

However, I did just install Fedora 9 on a older laptop... we'll see how it goes.

No problem here. It took an hour from start to finish, but it was painless.

well boys, I did it. I took a long nap also. which did not help anything because I still had to go through two long start ups where i basically thought microsoft finally went mad and tried to kill my computer. so far, they haven't succeeded.

My update was pretty smooth, just installed, restarted, and continued doing what I was before.
