I think temp agencies, in most instances, however, are a symptom of a sick economy. Most of the manufacturing facilities still standing in my area use (abuse) temp labor. They hire on a group of temps for a 6 month assignment. At the end of 6 months, they let them all go, and bring on another crew (no one goes perm.). At the end of 6 months, they bring back some of the previous crew. Basically they rotate temps every 6 months, so that they have to hire no one perm., give no one a raise, pay no one's healthcare. etc. I worked for a temp agency and several local manufacturers so Im not talking out of my arse here.

How did you get the temp position, and what did you do to earn the permanent status?

I hired a dude from a temp agency to work as my assistant.
He's been doing a good job thus far. When I get back from my honeymoon I'm going to really be putting him to the test!

Now I just need to become a permanent like you to avoid the next firing-spree. heh.
