YELLOWSTONE, Burning Man, Arches National Park

Missed the Woodward Dream Cruise this year 'cause I went out west on a 3-week trip...camping the whole way through Yellowstone, Burning Man and Moab Utah and Arches in particular.

The trip was myself and my high-school buddy James (a REAL good friend loaning me indefinitely his '74 Precision). We drove the entirety, seeing lotsa pavement and fried food. Anyhow, some pics:

Love it when you're the only one on the road. Somewhere in SD:

Everything here is strangely beautiful but rugged.

Yeah! Me & every other whack-job with an automobile:

The thermal pools which are all over Yellowstone are a reminder that you are walking on one of the most volatile volcanic caldrons anywhere in the world:

This water is HOT! Not potable and does nothing to really help the plant life which depends more upon rainfall than anything else to survive here.

Not for soaking:

Some sediment pools look unworldly:

I took lots of pictures of mountains & hills but I love these wallpaper type shots:

HEH:

From what I could see, it appears that these thermal pools build sedimentary flows after the water evaporates and these 'terraces' form:

After a while, you run out of words to describe stuff:

My cancer allegedly put a world of hurt on my bones but when I saw this rock pile, I said: "STOP THE DAMN CAR! I'M CLIMBIN' THAT!"

Climb we did. Ours is the blue Honda.

My friend Jim, the engineer was obsessed with the thermals. They do provide most awesome color:

In Yellowstone: Sometimes you just photograph what you see without any other reason except: "Wow!"

These picture were taken with either my Canon digital or the I-Phone-4-s. I gotta say, the 4-s is a really, really nice camera...for what it is!

Depending upon your monitor, you'll notice the 4-s pictures are sharper.

Badlands:

Why do so many trees fall over in Yellowstone? Probably because their root systems fan out to collect moisture rather than getting any nutrients from the soil.

This is one of the great benefits of living in the western US.

Arrrgghhhh!!! Pics blocked at work. I can't wait to get home and check this out. I love going on road trips around the country. Your sense of adventure seems just the same as mine.

Your pictures are amazing. Thanks for sharing.

Living on the other side of the world, I'm unlikely to ever see all this first-hand, so it's a pleasure to share your adventure, no matter how 'virtual'.
