Wink Yep, I'm Not Having Children...

Got a custom quote on an Alembic and it's $22,100 after i tried to make it as no-frills as possible. So it's either kids or an Alembic, unless i win the lottery or get an extremely well-paying job.(Not likely because i hope to teach a band class)

(BTW Larry, a sparkly purple fretless Jazz might ease the pain of Alembic-less-ness)

Ooh, retail on a 5-string Signature Standard is $8,800! That's better!

Just for giggles and all, you should order as many MIM jazz basses as you can afford, and then take a picture of yourself swarmed in basses, post it on TB, send em back, and then buy yourself that Alembic.

Just a thought. Grats on the bass over kids. Plus kids lose their resale value faster than cars.

Is there really an instrument worth 22K?

In my book - no way.

I could never understand the alembic thing. Every sound clip of them that I've ever heard, whether on albums or youtube, has sounded repulsively bad. My ibanez starter bass sounds better. Personally I don't like the look of em either.

could somebody please explain the Alembic thing to me?

Upright basses, yes. Bass guitars? Not so much.

You have to order your custom through an alembic dealer. The price you get through the dealer is considerably cheaper than a custom quote.

I like to think that it's natural selection in action; anyone willing to pay $22K for a bass probably shouldn't be breeding anyhow.

Factor in some high-quality acid & it will make perfect sense.

$22,000 worth of acid will make any bass sound like a Wagnerian symphony playing "take me out to the ball game."

And once you turn the amp on, man...

And that's why the TB classifieds exist. Happy hunting

I LOVE Alembics but the chances of me getting one are few and far between.
