For the first time in my entire adult life - as of March 1st I have health insurance.

Today, March 2nd, my rates were raised by 34%. I may have to cancel.

The system works! Huzzah!

Sounds like you're with Anthem Blue Cross. That sucks!

I have a funny feeling about this thread...

Of course don't actually get sick in the next 3 months because you may just be trying to take advantage of the insurance that you are paying for and get denied for coverage. Of course if you have a pre-existing condition you can forget about having that covered as well.

nothing like the system. I'm not sure what's worse; not working for a company who offers health insurance, or being priced out of it. Both things piss me off.

Not to get political here, but whatever your opinion is on this issue, let your legislator know.

Something needs to be done. What that is I don`t even know, but something does need to happen.

You know, for my Intro to Politics class, I had to write a Congressman, and I got a crazy Rant back. It was a lot to take in.

I'm working on it. I have no qualms in going out of the country after I've finished my degree in engineering, even if I have to engineer hockey sticks or moose shoes.

For what its worth, your health care isn't free, its paid for with tax money.

It's free for me. I don't pay any taxes

Seriously though, I'm surprised by some of the things in this thread.

I'm shocked that these things are legal anywhere for any type of insurance.

True, but its a great system. Havent met one singel person here (in this country) rich or poor, whos against it. Maybe except for the greedy insurance companies.
We dont have to worry about education, health care or social security. But of course you have cheaper burgers.

Hey, I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just pointing out that it isn't, by any stretch of the imagination, free.

**gotta keep the politics out of it edit:**
I have a serious problem with the structure of health care in our country.

One of the lovely aspects of my healthcare plan (besides premiums being raised about $400 this year) is that anything outside of a normal checkup is out-of-pocket until I pay $1,500. $1,500 shouldn't put a person on the streets, but if I sprain my ankle its almost like not having insurance at all.

Also, living in Buffalo right on the Canadian border I have family and friends in the medical profession on both sides. You can get an MRI in a day in America if you can pay for it. Everyone can have open heart surgery in Canada without receiving a $50,000 dollar bill.

I believe reform is necessary.
