"A 24-year-old police officer apparently was unaware of who Dylan is and asked him for identification"

That's why.

Aaaaaand the point is?

He looks like any other old man off the street. Sorry, but being a celebrity doesn't give you any special privileges. The cops were doing their job by escorting a suspicious man out of the neighborhood. No harm was done.

If he had refused to comply, would we have a 20+ page thread on it tomorrow?

What point? There is no point, I thought it was a cool story. I just find it funny, as I am sure Dylan did.Especially since I just can't imagine anyone alive not recognizing Dylan. Maybe I have just been alive long enough for imagination to catch up with reality. I thought it was cool that he was wandering around in a "low-income, predominantly minority neighborhood several blocks from the oceanfront looking at houses." That tells you something, or it tells me something about Dylan.

Hmmm, maybe I'm not as blind as I thought. Criminy, if you didn't recognize him when you saw him, as soon as he opened his mouth, you'd of had to of known him.

Yeah, but we're all musicians here. Any other regular person off the street I don't think would instantly recognize him.

Every single album, and I don't miss a show that gets within 150-200 miles.

I'm an old white guy, Bob Dylan is....well, Bob Dylan.

Non-story.

I remember walking along the street one night about 1 AM to my friend's house and a cop driving by and then turning around and coming back to check on my ID. I didn't have my wallet on me (yeah, I don't need it and I don't carry it around wherever I go ) but I told him my name and he looked it up in his computer and decided that I wasn't a "criminal". Yet he insisted upon playing twenty questions with me and wanted to know where I was going and what I was doing at that time of night. I made sure to be polite and respectful to the guy but I finally told him that I was going to visit my buddy on the other side of town and I had no obligation to provide him with any details such as addresses or phone numbers.

He agreed and wished me to "Have a good night, sir!" and then proceeded to tail me on the back streets a few blocks away until I arrived at my friend's house. I knocked and then entered, after which the cop drove off.

Yep. Non-story.

Hi.

A slow news day?

The appearance of celebrities can be decieving sometimes. Once in a show I went to(D.A.D), I almost didn't recognise Ville Valo (H.I.M), even though I had worked with him several times only a few years earlier and we knew eachother quite well.

Also for a celebrity, especially for someone who's mug isn't in every flick, billboard and paper there in sight, there has to be 2000 persons who doesn't recognise him/her for every single one who does.

I'd make a wild guess that the majority of the younger generation doesn't have a clue who Bob dylan is, musician or not.

Ask them about the tune "Knocking On Heavens Door". I'd bet that only one of 10 will give Bob Dylan as the first choice (guess).

Regards
Sam

Ok first of all

It doesn't matter who he is.

Whats wrong with walking around a neighbor hood?

Who's Bob dylan?

Ok i don't know who he is, the cops shouldn't be expected to know him either..

I wouldn't have went back to the resort...

Who calls the cops on an old guy walking around neighborhood?

Is it a law that you have to carry ID?

No, there is no law (that I know of) that says you have to carry ID (unless you are in a bar). But not having ID can be considered "suspicious" to a cop.

I speak from first hand knowledge, recently I was down in my barn one saturday evening and the cops show up. Apparently someone had called in a report of somebody vandalizing or breaking in to some houses near by that a developer bought to tear down and build more houses (they set on huge lots, 5 acres or more). So, they asked me if I had seen anything. Nope. They asked me for ID. I didn't have it with me, seeing as how my horses alll know me by sight especially WHEN ITS FEEDING TIME. They started giving me the third degree (is that the right degree?) I had to hike up to the house and find my wallet with these two cops in tow. Prove to them I was who I said I was, cause if "I was trying to deceive them about my Identity, even if I didn't have a warrant out, they would arrest me! Called my lawyer later on, cause I was not happy. Thats when he told me, you don't have to have an ID, but its also grounds for suspicion. Catch 22.

hey, it was a joke. Ever heard of Paul Simon? Way back in the early 60's he did a tune called, A Simple Desultory Philipic (or how I was Robert McNamaraed into Submission, that made fun of the older generation. There was a bridge or anyway a lyric that went ...

"I knew a man, his brain was so small,
He couldn't think of nothing at all.
He's not the same as you and me.
He doesn't dig poetry. He's so unhip that
When you say Dylan, he thinks you're talking about Dylan Thomas,
Whoever he was.
The man ain't got no culture,
But it's alright, ma,
Everybody must get stoned.

And he sang it mocking Dylan. In a Dylanesque voice.
