So check this out....I am about to be gone from work for six to eight weeks to have surgery. No biggie there. My boss is running around frantically trying to make sure everything I do everyday is done by the other two jokers I work with.
One glaring problem I have found...the two people I work with are "blamers". Now if we were a tier one support desk where our only job was to assign issues out to "responsible" parties, I got no problem with this. But we are not, we support all levels of the issue up to the very top. When an issue arises, their first instinct is to go find a person/department/process/procedure to blame and pass the issue off to. No real attempt to solve the problem. I am the opposite. When an issue is presented to me, I work on resolving it.
I really dislike working with people like this. They don't care about anything beyond keeping their work load empty. I feel sorry for our clients and internal staff while I am gone.
So where do you fall in this? Just wondering.

Generally. |

This can be a problem though since people tend to assume that you are the one who messed it up when they see you fixing it. What can you do? Just docment the process and CYA, I suppose.
My first question when something goes wrong is usually "Who can fix this?" istead of "Who effed this up?" It seems like a more productive way to opperate. However, I do agree that identifying the source of the problem can be useful as a means to avoid future mistakes.

But I also try to be aware of my limitations. If I'm in over my head I'm not shy at all about gettin' somebody with the proper knowledge in on it, rather than make it worse. Then I'm there to support (go get me that 9/16ths gidgmaster over thar) and to watch him so next time maybe I will be able to fix the problem.
But blame is useless. Kid stuff.

...I'm in the middle, leaning toward "fixer" myself. Since I'm management, I tend to also be responsible for most of the stuff that requires "fixing"...

Working with a bunch of slackers at my previous job made me learn taht if you are a fixer you end up doing more work and get paid the same amount!

But I usually get it sorted, because by the time you argue with someone to figure out who's fault it is, the thing could have been fixed!
