what gives me the heebies most about moths is that their guts are all dusty and powdery. So totally creepy. PLEASE tell me you saved that in some way...it practically begs to be encased in epoxy and shown at carnivals. Or mechanized, and in TOHO movies. LOOK AT THAT LEG! IT POKE YER EYE OUT!

seriously tho, that is right up there with those giant Taiwanese "furry" moths. Gotta be a record for North America, or very close. I would HATE to have that splat my windshield at night.

In India we do have 10 inchers, esp in my neck of the woods. A few days back, a moth flew into my room; I recall it being at least as large as an average sized bat.

Looks like a Buckeye moth to me. You Ohio guys, let me know if it is. Interesting thing is if you put it up against a tree it disappears! Great camouflage!

Luna Moth
My wife and I saw one at a local gas station late at night last week. Beautiful moth, but I started getting that Lunesta feeling soon after! I slept like a baby that night!

You are correct. I was curious as well and asked an expert, his response can be found here.

No, just their wings. They splatter on windshields and leave gook just like any other bug.
