I've never been around some, but yeah I think I'd panic if I'd be in the water and one would be swimming around.

Shark is awesome on the grill! Luckily, the biggest thing swimming in the great lakes are sturgeon. There ugly as all get out but I don't mind swimming with them.

I agree...I think I would freak if I was swimming and saw a fin near me.

We have some pretty nasty sized Musky's here that will take down a small dog, but I still swim in the lakes with them.

I tend to act pretty calmly if I see something approach, and just watch. However, if it just appeared out of nowhere like a ninja shark, I'd probably freak out.

I've fortunately never encountered a shark when I was swimming. It would probably scare me if I did.
I did have a big snapping turtle swim past me in a lake one time that scared the crap out of me. The thing was the size of a trash can lid!

Sharks don't scare me unless they have lasers on their heads...

Only when I go swimming in the ocean. Other than that, I really don't worry about them. My pool is shark free.

Seen a few in the water with me. Disconcerting? Yeah, when you first see em come out of the deep blue....but not flailing away like an epileptic on meth scary.

Sharks are very unlikely to eat you. It's those people who are attacked by sharks who make it on the news, not shark sitings.

I wouldn't freak out, but I would definitely swim to shore.

I would love to go shark diving, but if I was just taking a leisurely swim at the beach and brushed up against one, I'd be a bit frazzled.

As an ex commercial diver I would just say that diving when sharks are around is perfectly safe when following one simple rule. Ensure that ALL sharks in youy vicinity HAVE read, are COMPLETLY conversant with, have been FULLY certified and are CONTRACTURALLY obligated to behave in a manner that is COMPLIANT with all shark behavior books, articles and memoranda that you have read.......otherwise all bets are off.

I once swam with a shark that had failed the exam for his sharking license. Turns out he was one of the nicest sharks I've ever met. I don't know how some of those Bull sharks pass their exams, though. Those guys are total tools.

Big +1 to both of these. Shark is one of the few fish that I actually like. I've swam with sharks, surfed near sharks, fished for sharks, etc. The only time one has scared me was when I caught a young hammerhead on my grandparents' pier. That thing was feisty!

I swam (body surfed) on the coast of Florida, saw nothing until I got back to my hotel room. I turned on the t.v. and the news was showing a birds eye view from a helicopter, the very beech I'd just been in. There were DOZENS of sharks all around in the shallow water where the waves break. I don't know what kind of sharks, but obviously not the "quick to eat human" kind. I admit it gave me a wee shiver as I realized. They weren't small either. That's my only personal story, but I'll add, a friend of a friend was eaten WHOLE by a Tiger shark while surfing (alone) in California. It only became known when a fisherman caught the same shark a couple of days later up coast a few miles, and cut it open to make the gruesome discovery. Yikes.
