That's why I still don't have a job.

Of course, a total lack of talent also presents a problem......

Much truth here. I've always been one of those "realists" who never followed his dreams because, well, I knew the odds. Still I have this desire to go run away and do something stupid and crazy, despite the decent job with benefits.

Priorities change DRASTICALLY when a wife and kids enter the equation. If you can make it work for you doing only what you love, then good for you. For me, my job gives me the financial security to not only provide for my family, but buy the toys I like, and play music without the pressure of having to get a gig to be able to eat.

With very few exceptions, the professional musicians (full-time, only source of income) I know all struggle financially. Yes, they enjoy playng music, but it's as much a job an a business as anything else.

LMAO. Great article.

Curiously enough, the byline is from Hillsboro, OR, which is the town right next to where I live.

And yes, having a child puts a quick end to the rock-stardom dreams.

yeah i know, thats why i am really not planning on getting married or kids anytime for the next eight to ten years for sure i think. am turning 20 next month and if i ever plan to get married or anything i'd get a job as a music teacher at a high school along with teaching at music schools for financial security. i'd be making my sacrifices and probably never having a lot of heck load of money but even when i think about it i wouldnt even know what do with it because a better house or a better car or some more even money does'nt really excite me as much the idea of a playing does! heck i dont think am even good at anything else than this and i love it.

Right where I used to live... although if it were my old neighborhood he'd be working at a Mexican restaurant.

Do you mean the original story wasn't written by the Onion?

Good premise, weak execution IMHO.
