It had the first attempt at making an engine with variable 8-6-4 cylinder engine. It sounded great on the drawing board, but worked horribly in the real world. The engineering simply wasn't up to the challenge.
Honorable mention must go out to the Ford EXP. It was an Escort with less room. Still not sure what Ford saw aiming for with this one.
