And why? I know there are quite a few of them, at least for me, but right this second, who comes to your mind?

I have to say, from interviews, from playing, etc etc I ma go with Nabokov for now...Even though i play center/forward so he is not the guy i watch for tips, still...

Nice guy, great goalie, always tries to win for the team, always praises his team... Overall seems like a very nice and good individual... And a great goalie!

Plus he is a shark and he is Russian... What's not to love...

EDIT: PS Happy?

Darryl Dawkins - He was from the planet Lovetron. He went home during the offseason to visit Juicy Lucy and work on his "interplanetary funkmanship".

I'd say Brett Favre, but then Gard would go all into a tizzy and say what an a-hole he is.

He is, the nice guy is only a cover-up for the evil that he is...

Oh, you mean "your favorite ATHLETE"!.....

OK, well then I'll be the one to say Brett Favre. I don't care whether he he has a tarnished rep in the area - on the field, he's the absolute definition of the attitude an athlete should bring to sport.

It's NOT life and death, it's a sport - and he plays it like one.

Wayman Tisdale. Just because he's one of us. He's a better bass player than he was a basketball player and he was an NBA All Star several times, so that's saying something.

Shane Mosely...getting up there in years but still a beast.

Patrick Roy with the Canadiens. 'Nuff said.

Sean Sherk. I don't think he was on roids, and even if he was, he still has the best work ethic of anybody in MMA today. Even if he DID use, he still completely dominated Hermes Franca, who admitted to using nandrolone and showed up in considerably more impressive physical condition than he had previously displayed.

George St. Pierre -- constantly evolving and learning. He tossed Matt Hughes around in their last fight like it was a warm-up sparring match. And just for the icing on the cake, he submitted him. Nice.

Rod Smith. This guy was an undrafted walk-on, and now owns every Denver Bronco's recieving record. He has always represented himself and his team in a truly positive light and has been very active in the community. He even once volunteered to take a pay cut so his team would have room under the salary cap to build/maintain the talent neccessary to win 2 Superbowls. Yes, he spent the last season on IR, but he still made an impact by helping develop young recievers. He didn't have to do that, he could have sat at home and nursed his injury. But, no, he attended practices and games helped in any way he could.

Laird Hamilton (This guy is 6'4" for a little size reference)

Brad Gerlach on a 65 thousand dollar wave for the win of the XXL Surf Contest (which is a contest held every year for the documented biggest wave of the year) This wave is 68 feet. I've talked to this guy before and funny thing was is that he recognized ME and called ME out from some stuff I did for the Surfrider Foundation in Rolling Stone. I was laughing because he's one my heros and he was more interested in talking to me about me and my stuff. Very nice and humble guy to say the least.

Rob Machado. A real nice guy and one of the smoothest surfers this world has witnessed.

Andy Irons. Number 1 ranked pro-surfer. I wouldn't have put him on my list until I met him. Just really gracious. He's a nice guy. Here's a shot of me with him and his brother. Andy is on the right, Bruce Irons is on the left making a funny face.

Tiger Woods. Not only is he a great golfer but his outlook and approach to life is really positive. Just a solid human being.

Michael Jordon. Enough said.

Here's a shot I took with Andy Irons on the right and his brother Bruce Irons also a professional surfer on the left.

Definitely. Lots of Leaf haters I know seem to direct their hatred towards Mats. If they'd actually take the time to watch a game they'd see how much of a key player he is to the team. He's one of the hardest players in the league to take the puck from in the corners.

My all-time favorite hockey player is Mario Lemieux. Other favorite athletes include Brett Favre, Michael Jordan, and Roy Halladay.
