Just thought i would start up a best Horror film thread, as its close to my heart..im scared but i love the creations of these amazing imaginations.... they scare me in different ways but man do they scare me.....
these are my favorite.. with clips too..
Evil Dead....for me Sam Raimi is one of the most creative horror directors ever. wonderfully magnificently creative.. Sam is the man.. ive seen other horrors but there is not much better for suspense gore and creativity..amazing in every way.... amongst all this there is humour... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qr4PcOQYFAw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0YfEwRLGrc
the comedy mixed with the horror is what makes this film such a timeless classic...imho..
Kubrick is another a master of all he touches, and this was one of his best..scary,thrilling,gory,creepy,.... i was really on the edge of my seat, in an uncomfortable way, the first time i saw this film...
everything about it from the opening credits to the wonderful JN who is top draw always... ive shows three scenes the first really sets the film up with a brilliant score...gives me the creeps big time.. if you aint seen this film...watch it.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgCejsyS0t8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFVyAjj3Bs0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TVooUHN7j4
ha.. you gotta love Jack... i think Shellt Duval is magnificent also
This is a great great horror for mr King..very creepy.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZGf2vnASHc
The exorcist 3.. this scared the sh*t out of me... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KmJZs5I4r8&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Srhd7kKARI
From every thing i had seen before didnt prepare me for Hell Raiser....the darkest of the dark...just amazingly horrible...this is horror i had never seen the likes of before...it was something in the imagination of Clive Barker that really scared me at the time.. the characters like the Cenebites..Pin Head.. the hooks... what a great creation of such a dark world. wonderful stuff... nearly the best horror of all time... when you have seen this film you know you have watched a good a horror film.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAx34IZ8bTk

But one that always, always gets me, is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Perfect balance of suspense and misleading cinematography. It's practically a bloodless movie, but I feel dirty after watching it. It's so gritty looking and psychotic. After I saw it the first time, I said "What the #%* did I just see?"
The sequels were all garbage though, which is a pity. They should have left it alone.
Oh yeah, and then there's Silence of the Lambs.
Not only one of the best horror/suspense films ever, but in my opinion one of the best movies ever made, period, in any genre.

Bruce Campbells other movies are awesome too. I highly recommend Bubbah Ho-Tep if you wanna see old elvis and a black guy who thinks he's J.F.K. go after a cowboy mummy.

Dawn of the Dead is probably my favorite, but only because it reminds me of how malls were when I was really a young pup. |

Add that on to the ending scene, which is terrifying in a whole other sense of the word, and of course the brilliance of Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward, and you have one of the most brilliant films of any genre.
Similarly, Witchfinder General, The Shining and Silence of the Lambs are amazing.

Also, if you ever heard of the band MORTICIAN; they use alot of clips from 70's-80's horror movies for song intros. Kinda neat if your a horror freak like myself! |

I don't think it helps that I first saw it when I was only ~6 or something when the film was first shown on TV.
Book is much better tho!
