Your Holiday Meal

Sign in to disble this ad
First off, Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy Holidays to all the haters.. ....

So what did you all have/make for your holiday meal?

I had the lady's folks in town so I brined a 15lb turkey for 40 hrs, made a pile of garlic-rosemary mashed taters and some good 'ol Stove Top stuffing.. Made some steamed cauliflower and salad for veggies, and did my favorite version of cranberry sauce with OJ as the cooking liquid. Anyone else love doing the cooking for the holidays? This might have been my best turkey yet.

My wife made her home made macaroni and cheese, and some mashed potatoes, along with a nice romaine salad.

I did the only thing I could do:

Glazed a big ole ham with cherry and pineapple glaze, cut some criss crosses into it, and sent it into a hot oven, where it turned into a yummy Christmas dinner.

Since the weather was so clear and warm for Southern Illinois, I went outside and fried the turkey. It was great! My wife made macaroni and cheese, collard greens, dressing, potato salad (she does love her starches!)

She also made a great lemon cake and a sweet potato pie. I engaged in epic over eating too!

I made an apple cake! Didn't quite turn out as perfect as I would've liked but I'm learning.

My mom, aunt and grandma handled the rest of the menu:

Mac n' Cheese
Potato Salad
Ham baked in Syrup (ran out of honey, lol)
Baked Turkey
Stuffing
Gravy
Apple Pie
Greens
String beans

Of course, it was all delicious... cept the greens but me and greens have been beefin' since I was aware of my existence.

Since my cooking skills are pretty much limited to grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, my wife did all the cooking. Just the usual Christmas fare:

turkey
spiral ham (yummy!)
meat stuffing
sweet potatoes, squash, corn and peas, mashed potatoes
crescent rolls

I don't know why they call this a Christmas meal, since we'll be eating this for the next few days!

I had chicken nooldle soup! Missed out on Christmas with my folks and brothers this year due to being sick and soup was about all I could handle.

No sympathy needed, please! It was just one of those things that happened when it did.

No kidding. All I ate was some beef flavored Ramen Noodles. I was by myself and even though I can cook, that is all I ate.

After years of doing a traditional type English meal, Roast Beef (whole filet) Yorkshire Pudding and plum pudding, along with baked stuffed potatoes and brussels sprouts, we went to the sister out-law, where we had her homemade chicken pot pies w/ puff pastry and caesar salad with freshly made dressing. The mother out-law brought ham and scalloped potatoes. There were a bunch of desserts and cheeses too.

My own weight in mini quiches

We were traveling so I didn't get to cook anything but we had:
Christmas eve at my folks- Home made Tamales, Home made Chili, Spiral Honey Ham, Sis made a special mushroom cheesy potato thing, baked beans & my Dad's Pecan Pie

At the in-laws- another spiral ham this time orange cranberry, green beans with bacon, sweet potato and potato gratin with gruerre cheese that was excellent. Pecan Pie that had carmelized pecans on top with big scoop of BlueBell Homemade vanilla ice cream.
Today we're having left overs, mmmmmm.
