Your Opinion: French Law regarding Islamic Full Face Covering for Women

Sign in to disble this ad
France is in the process of enacting a law preventing a person from wearing any mask or full facial covering that obscures their identity.

Google - "French law regarding face covering", or: AlJazeeraEnglish's Channel - YouTube
"French law regarding total face covering"
Or please see:
France Braces for New Law Banning Face-Covering Veils for Muslim Women | TheBlaze.com

*

Those favoring the law consider issues of terrorism / law enforcement / degrading of women. Islamic scholars also declare that nowhere in the Qoran is any demand for women to cover their face & this is basically a Wahabist concept.

Those opposed to the law declare their right to their individual choice of religious freedom, their feelings that this is directed as an oppressive act toward Muslims, & their siting of the 1905 law that declares France a secular country from it's previous catholic origins.

France appears to be the first of the Western countries in the EU to take such action toward the complete covering of a woman in public.

What is your opinion?

You might wanna ask a mod if this sort of thread will be allowed to fly.

Also, you should check out Germany's stance on this sort of thing. From what I've read, their government has been taking very interesting stances in regards to immigration and what immigrants have to do in order to gain citizenship.

My opinion is that this thread isn't going to last very long.

If a person is allowed to wear a skimask on the streets of France, then this is bs.

If a person is not allowed to wear a skimask on the streets of France, then this is normal.

Thread over...

...No, really, against the rules and things.

What is your opinion?
Do you think other western nations will do something similar?
My opinion is muddled- as always, there are so many facets to the issue that I can't decide who's nuts.
Lastly, I give this thread 12 more minutes.

Rather turning this into a religious argument, I'll say this: it's a matter of security. Should the need arise for facial identification, then this should trump any supposed freedoms to wear such items as the niqab.

Try that in a airport sometime & see how long it takes until you are stopped.

Changed my post so it makes more sense.

Re-read it please.

Just don't live there, no biggie. France isn't the only place in the world to live.

To me the whole thing is a storm in a teacup. Less than 400 women in a French offical survey even wore the niqab. Out of 200,000 registered Muslims.

Two women are due in court for flouting this new law. I predict it will get very messy, as will this thread.

France is doing a lot to combat religious reclusivity amongst the immigrants, so that it wouldn't lead to extremist behavior. France is doing a lot to show that people can be as religious as they want at homes and churches, but on the streets everyone should be an equal.

Integration to the society is the most important thing in Europe at the moment - Western Europe faces somewhat difficult immigration from Middle-Eastern countries, where the average immigrant isn't very well educated or speaks the native language, and hence is very susceptible to more conservative religious influences. This of course leads to religious leaders gaining influence and power, which is sometimes abused in extremist fronts.

Let's say that I create my own church and it is recognized by the government. In the rules of my newly governmental approved religion, it states that everyone must worship in a bank lobby wearing full body armor, carry loaded machine guns and scream at the top of one's lungs "everybody on the ground, this is a robbery." Nobody gets hurt and not one penny is taken. In fact, many members feel the need to save time and they already have their deposit slips filled out with them.

Is this scenario covered by freedom of religion or is it a security issue?
