Youtube videos silenced

Some videos are being silenced because of copyright, users have a choice either mute the videos or youtube will remove them.

funny,

was just listening to terry gross on npr today interview steve knopper who just wrote "appetite for self destruction" about the music industry's bumbling of mp3 tech, napster, and itunes.

http://www.amazon.com/Appetite-Self-.../dp/1416552154

and seems like the record co's are only gonna do the same w/ video, youtube, and whatever else they can find.

rather than seeing their own customers as allies, they rather see them as foes, and treat these new technologies as such.

Does this mean that if we have done videos where we play bass over a track they are going to silence the tracks?

In the past month or two I've stumbled across hundreds of muted videos. This is getting beyond a joke. What's next, are we going to be told it's illegal to listen to music on the radio?

After that you can't listen to a song by memory in your head. Maybe we should go back to bootlegging on audio cassettes.

Screw Time Warner. I say millions of people ought to download and share their property as much as possible.

It happened to me, but I filled YouTube's dispute form and it was accepted.

Can't you just Un-mute it? I keep coming across vids that the sound is turned down...so I just turn it up. Are we talking about the same thing here?

usually that is a personal setting that youtube saves. say your sun watches girls stripping and turns the sound down, then x's it out and leaves the room. Then you come in and turn on your favorite Spice girls video and the sound is down, so you have to turn it up.

Until it's YOUR content that YOU try to get a paycheck from...and everyone just downloads it for free and you have to go get a dayjob.

Weird, cuz I am the only person in my house and all of a sudden a bunch of the vids have the sound down....and I never watched any of them that way.

According to George Harrison, a Spice Girls video was something that might actually be enjoyed but with the sound turned down.

Those record company clowns never quite got the idea of free advertising, did they?

So if a kid discovers a band on MySpace, downloads their songs on Limewire and watches their videos and concert footage on YouTube without ever paying for any of it, how does it benefit the record company?

We are rapidly approaching a point where recorded music will have no value. The traditional relationship for a record deal was that the artist got marketing muscle and "exposure" (and of course money) from the record company while the record company got more money from sales. If recorded music is worthless the system falls apart, then what use is there for a record company at all?

Everyone talks about record companies needing to adapt. I don't see it that way. They need to survive while they can, however they can because their end may be coming soon.

Seriously! Why would a record company put money into something that they can't sell? The only way to make money now is ticket sales for going on tour, selling t-shirts...and, apparently, ring-tones...

So, should a Record Company really just be called a "Band Promotions" company now...?
