Which three guns(or gun types) & one melee weapon would you choose to arm yourself with and why?
Keep in mind that they will be used both defending your safehouse and while traveling/ on the run.
I would choose:
-A semiautomatic or lever-action rifle w/ scope. If at all possible I would pick them off from a distance before resorting to close-quarters combat.
-Shotgun w/ standard shells and deer slugs. They get too close, they get a crater where their head used to be. Deer slugs for longer/ medium distances.
-.22 Rimfire pistol . Point blank use-only in an emergency. Just enough velocity to enter the skull, but not to exit. .22's can whiz around in the skull, shredding grey matter. Efficient and lightweight.
For melee, a katana would be preferable, due to its light weight and power, or if one is unavailable, a machete.
Be prepared.

* 9 mm pistol, something like a Glock or Baretta or Walther. Something reliable. Once again, plenty of ammo.
* 12 gauge shotgun. Likely a Remington or Mossberg. Once again, easy ammo.

Kimber .45
and pretty much any semi-auto 12 gauge shotgun ( or this).
Everyone needs a zombie plan.

H&K Mk.23 .45 ACP pistol (Reliable, plentiful in ammo, got some distance and accuracy on it, too)
Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun (Once again, plenty of ammo and beyond reliable)
I too wouldn't mind a bladed object (or two) for really close work, more than likely a pair of wakizashi's since two smaller blades can be much faster than one long blade, given that I don't even have room for the shottie.
Peace,
Greg

A PSG-1 would certainly allow engagement of small to medium sized groups of undead at distance. (or an accurized ar 15)
someone already mentioned the kimber .45 that seems perfect for a pistol/side arm
and a cross bow, for stealth, or very limited engagement |

Modified Remington 870 express(or some compact benneli or mossberg)
Glock 40. (Has the knock down power of a 45 and the magazine capacity of a 9mm)
I do pretty good with a KA-BAR
then a machete |

2nd Gun= F&N Five-seveN shares ammo with P90
3rd Gun= Ithaca model 37

If ammo wasn't a factor. I would Have to go with a .375 (they dont make em anymore) bloddy (excuse the pun) powerful. Some type of shotgun, probably just a standard 12 gauge, its the ultimate zombie weapon. and probably an m4. melee, probably a crow bar, like the one on half life.
edit:Better add a Zombie Plan:
Go to my friends property, in the middle of nowhere, plenty of cattle to eat, fruit trees to live off plently of running water. only problem, to get there I have to drive through the most populated place in my area, and its two hours away. Also there are lots of trees and things that could hide incomming zombies.

I would recommend:
*single-shot bolt-action rifle. Ideal for picking off zombies in when there are NO OTHER OPTIONS. Noise will attract more.
No other guns. They will only attract more zombies and weigh you down. When I need to use a shotgun or the like chances are I'm going to be f******* anyway.
*A silent distance weapon. Maybe a crossbow. This would enable me to kill off zombies without alerting others to my position.
*Machete. Forget katana's, they will break. A crowbar is nice but runs the risk of getting logded in a zombie skull. A machete is the most reliable cutting tool available. Machete to the head will destroy any zombie in closed quarters.
Zombie plan: get on my bike and head into less populated areas. Should I be trapped in a house (preferrably two stories): destroy staircase and barricade myself.
For further zombie survival reading I recommend the zombie survival guide.
Off course, if the zombies are of the fast biting kind, give me a AK47 and a shotgun. |

It's the ones that are within range to hit/claw/bite you that you should be worried about.
In that case, a shotgun is probably the best thing you could have in case of a zombie attack. Preferably a semi-auto, especially something portable. Again, accuracy doesn't really matter. 5.56 ammo is readily available and i'll go with something short and portable again, probably something like an M4. Crossbow also sounds like a good idea, especially if sound attracts them. Bolts are also reusable if not barbed too heavily. (of course, not much damage from a bolt, though)
And i'll have to go with the crowbar also. Pretty much anything will incapacitate when swung with normal force, and a crowbar has oh-so-many other functions.

An automatic shotgun and a 9mm. That's all I need.
And yes, it depends on the zombies. Are we talking NOTLD or 28 Days Later? |

For my meele weapon I might go for a kukri or a katana, something with the capabilities of beheading. I guess the kukri would save on space.

For longer distances, a decent rifle, perhaps an accurate AK47-clone. For a melee weapon, I'd go with a sharpened field shovel, WW2-style.

It would obviously have night optics available and a red dot sights. Assault rifles are just so damn practical. I think a 7.62 caliber would be better against zombies than the NATO standard, because it's wider, and zombies really need to be torn into pieces.
Some kind of a small submachinegun, like a H&K MP5K for close quarters, having a stock would be important, being in a zombie infested area you're going to be a bit nervous and any bit of stability is going to be important as not hitting really isn't an option when a zombie is approaching. That's why I'd rather not have a handgun as my sidearm (I also know that I have crap aim with handguns ).
Also a katana, great for chopping off rotten limbs.
