| It really depends on what school/city you'll be in.
Last year I was in Toronto, so no, I didn't need it -- extensive transit system covered the whole city. Plus, insuring the car I would've been driving (94 Honda Civic) in the city would've cost a fortune.
This year I'm in Kingston going to Queen's. Kingston (~125K people, as opposed to Toronto's >2mil) is a lot more spread out and the transit system sucks the big one. Insurance isn't bad here at all, and it's only about 30 minutes from where I used to live before I moved out. So yeah, I have the car.
PS: Also, living in rez makes having a car much more complicated as a lot of residences don't plan for student parking. Queen's sure as hell doesn't, the closest place I could park to my classes is literally my own driveway.
