I didn't remember for a certainty where I'd heard it, but I first guessed it was sung on TV by Buddy Hayes who played bass and tuba for Lawrence Welk from 1954 to 1966. He did occasional novelty numbers like that. Hayes and my dad (trumpet) played together in an Army band at Camp Callan, La Jolla, during WWII. (We watched a lot of Welk at our house when I was a kid.)
BUT, then I actually found the thing on youtube. Turns out it was sung on the Welk show, not by Hayes but by trumpeter Rocky Rockwell. I remember his face now after seeing it.
I need to get a life, don't I.

Pat Boone provided the same service for another musical genre as well. |

However, it's not a problem. He was no hero of mine. Fixed it already.

A couple years ago my wife bought me a bookend for my birthday, a metal wire-frame figure of a classic cello player sitting with the instrument between his knees, with a bow.
It is on the shelf. I never told her different. Would you?
