College ROCKS.

Hey guys, I've been a bit of a ghost for the past few days -- I moved into residence at Humber College on Wednesday.

Been practicing and jamming a bit (this place is humming with music students -- often quite literally) and hanging out with a bunch of people. Tonight a drummer and I were hanging out with a bunch of people...we were all going to see "Accepted" (comedy movie for teenagers.) Transit wasn't playing nice, so went went into the downtown area and introduced the rest of the group to jazz (piano trio with Brandi Disterheft on bass at the Red Guitar ). Everyone took to it really well, killer players.

Can't wait for classes to start...placement auditions are on Tuesday and Wednesday, I think. I think I might actually skip out of the free concert (a "radio" band -- Snow Patrol, I think) to hit some serious shed time.

But yeah, I'm having a great time. I guess Mark Wilson from the BG side will be moving in tomorrow as well.

Awesome stuff.

PS: I'm a move-in volunteer (eg, I help people move in ) so I could move in early. Today, some rich dude tipped me and another guy $20 . Split it, and it paid for the cover for the show tonight.

College rocks? Pretty much.

The bassists are Rice are extremely friendly. They invited me to a house party last night, and took me to a movie this afternoon. Even though they're mostly graduate students and upperclassmen, they seem to treat me like an equal, which I think is really special. I've also been really impressed with the rest of the school, and everyone seems really happy here.

Enjoy yourselves.

I don't move in until Sept 12, and all my friends have already left town. So now I'm just working and practicing a ton. Thanks for making me even more embittered about not being at school yet.

I'm totally joking. Sounds freaking awesome, man.

I can't wait to start.

It sounds like you guys are moving in the right direction, but do those of us who never had the chance to go to college full-time a favor. Squeeze everything out of it, and don't squander that opportunity. It's an incredible luxury to be able to live at school and concentrate fully on your studies...you may or may not realize that yet. Make the most of it and don't fall into the party trap.

I'd give my left nut to be able to do what you're doing. Congrats, you guys!

I agree with Mike.

Update us often about how your programs are. We enjoy living vicariously through you...

The amazing thing is, the wires have picked up this story too:
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/52064

Seriously tho, it's an incomparable time. Enjoy it. And if anyone ever tells you getting a PhD is fun because it just means "going back to college," run away.

I went back to college late in life (30's). I was way older than the other undergrads and was, in many cases, older than my professors I wouldn't trade it for anything. Get the most out of it and have fun.

Indeed, only they were bought by a company out of NYC. No longer the small Madison rag it once was..

Nope? Is he in the degree? There's only 4 bass players in the Intro course. Two of which are myself and Aaron.

I just started Walnut Hill...it's sorta like college in the sense that it's a boarding school. Still have chamber auditions Sunday then YPO auditions next week. I'll be ready, at the expense of not making any friends the first week though :/

Hey Mark, what's shaking? I skipped the Rex concert...needed the money for some college related experimention (a variety of imported beer.)

It's been pretty awesome so far, no question. I may have met Charles...I dunno, I've met a bunch of guys in the degree program. He's definitely in the degree, right? He might've actually been the dude I was talking on the bus yesterday to (trip to a boat cruise)...I'm not sure.

Can't wait for classes, but this week has been a frickin' TRIP. This weekend will also be one hell of a blast, too. Lots of people going home/coming back from home, so the whole place'll be humming...especially tomorrow night .

Charles is definetly black, if that helps. He's not staying in res, and plays pretty much just bass guitar.

If he's not in res, I almost definitely haven't met him.
