DB in Seattle?

Hey all,
just moved here from Flagstaff and I'm trying to find som DB connections. I visited Hammon Ashley on day one and I was blown away by all the basses! Honestly, there are very few DB connections in Flagstaff so to see Kays, Juzeks, and Christophers along with some $20,000 basses (which I played an elvis tune on... lol) was like walking into to an expensive candy store.
But are there any acts I should check out as far as DB goes?
I'm the new kid on the block so I don't know much yet.

If you like jazz, check out Don Lanphere. He is sax player who disappeared after playing with Bird and Fats Navarro, but after recovering from drug problems years ago, he is stronger than ever (despite some recent health problems). His bassist Doug Miller is really good (teaches at UW), and their recent cd Home at Last made Ira Gitler's Top 5 of 2002.

I lived in Seattle for about six years and recently left. (6 mos. ago). Anyway Here are some great players to check out. Michael Bisio. He has a regular thursday night gig at the pink door in the pike place market. The Monktail Creative Music Concern. Every Thursday at the Coffee messiah at the corner of denny and olive on Capitol Hill. Reptet check the papers to see when they are playing. Check out Bebop and Destruction on Tuesdays @ the owl and thistle on post alley in pioneer square. Have you checked out the Earshot Jazz monthly newsletter. It has a comprehensive list of shows in the puget sound. Bud's Jazz Records on 1st in pioneer square is awesome and Bud will tell you anything you want to know about the scene and players in the area. Buddy Catlett (Count Basie's Favorite Bass Player) lives in Seattle so keep your Eyes peeled. Also get to know some guys at Cornish College of the Arts and UW. They can point you in the right direction. Tula's is a great club for straight ahead Jazz (2nd ave in Belltown). And Polestar on 18th and Union for bold and daring New Music. It shouldn't be hard to dig into the scene. Also check out the Bass Church. Another candy store. I will include some links for you to scope and hope this helped you out.

I only know really about the improvised and jazz scenes. So if you are looking for other kinds of DB musics Dusty Strings cn help you out. Otherwise just grab a stranger and see what's up. Hope I could help.
