Egaaaaads!

Is it just my imagination, or has substance and quality of posts (especially on the EB side) taken a dive?
I've been gone for a while and find that TB doesn't seem to be what it used to be.

Just venting.... thanks.

I try not to go over to the EBG side too often, but have found myself over there a few times lately and have seen some thoroughly worthless things. Some people who I have respected from a DB side personna have showed themselves to be something else over there. I've resisted posting.

I think that things are generally going fairly well over here, although I admit that my personal patience with people registering and posting the same stupid questions without investing 30 minutes in a smidge of research is dwindling.

"Hey, anyone heard of Obligato Strings? Can you tell me if they'd be good on a Shen Hybrid?"

I've been drawn into a few discussions over here that I've regretted getting involved in. I've wondered what makes me do such things.

On the other hand, it's been a great TB year for me because I've actually met some of the guys from the boards as they've come through town or I've gone through theirs. Makes all the difference.

Especially us PacNW guys, we should look each other up like Jake did with me when he was down here bass shopping.

Anything in particular been bothering you?

TRAILING THOUGHT EDIT:

Plus, they've brought us access to 3 great professional resources (in addition to the ones we had in membership) in Lynn Seaton, David Ruby and Patrick Neher. I haven't partaken of the Contrabass Conversations yet, but I think the forums are getting better.

I think that everyone reaches a "saturation point" with TB, and that eventually real life becomes increasingly more important than cyber-life. Especially with kids in the house. That said, I still love the regular give and take with fellow bassists, keeping in touch with what others are doing, finding the latest gear to GAS over, the occasional silly flame war, etc...It's just a smaller slice of my everyday thing than it used to be.

On the negative side, a lot of the old timers who had a lot of great things to say have either flamed out or drifted away. On the positive side, there are a lot of nice newer folks hanging around. As Troy mentioned, many of the discussions that have already been had keep resurfacing as posted by newbies, but beyond maintaining the Links/FAQ threads, there's not much to be done about that. For me, the important thing is to keep the place open and organized so tha anyone can find information that they need here more easily. The rest - including the funny/silly/profound/philosophical/ridiculous etc. stuff always seems to surface often enough to make it worthwhile.

I'm assuming you're referring to the "Jessica Biel or Jessica Alba?" thread....

On second thought, never mind all that stuff I said before. You're absolutely right...

I spend just a few minutes and just clicked on the forum nests to find some recent topics. Looks pretty intellectual to me. I think these would make excellent Jeopardy categories.

“Farting During a Show” - 39 Pages of Discussion
“Chicks at Shows”
“Why You Should Not Get Lost in the Woods of Norway”
“Dude, My Life Kicks Ass!”
“Do You Headbang While Recording”
“Addams Family vs. The Munsters”
“Is It a Scam? Questions Before Risking My Money.”
“Everything I Know About Guys.”
“My Life Has Turned into a Bad Country Song.”
“I Hate Crocs!!!!” (4 pages of discussion)
“Jessica Biel or Jessica Alba?” (5 pages)
“Have You Been Banned??????????”
“That Time of Year Again”
-----Well its that time when one part of your nose gets clogged up. It Sucks i know. im out of peppermints. Damn”

“Ban the Person Above You (A Game!) Part II!” – 2 Pages
“Ban the Person Above You (A Game!) - 199 Pages
“Got a Root Canal Today”
“3:00 PM is Fantasize about Donuts Time” (2 Pages)
“Everything I know about Girls”
“What Are Your Thoughts on Jagermeister?” (4 Pages)
“R/C: Show Your Radio Controlled Vehicles!”
“Tell a Story Using Only Smilies”

And a very long, very ignorant Martial Arts thread.

To be fair, there did seem to be some music and bass related discussion as well. But I would hate to moderate the off-topic and misc forums over yonder.

Not really. A general sampling of various threads in different forums on the EB side has left me wondering if perhaps I am not enjoying life to the fullest. I have not, for example, pissed off any emo's lately (that I'm aware of). Nor have I participated in the "ban the person above you" game (and to think I missed parts I & II of the 3-part series). Then there's the "Flea vs. Jaco' thread.... didn't we sort that one out 7 years ago? (and then 6 years ago... and 5 years ago and.... you get the pic).

Alright.... just got back from checking out some of the threads mentioned by TroyK.....

I would like to seek asylum here on the DB side.

Credit where it's due

Gotta say, some of the BG sidebar ads featuring scantily clad bikini models are a nice diversion.

What can I say.... once a dawg, always a dawg.

How about a DB OT thread: "Juliette Binoche, or Juliette Binoche?" See, now there's a topic worthy of discussion. A mature, manly topic, as it were. Problem is, down here on the dark side, the answers would be a bit more pithy. In my case, a simple "yes" about covers it for that one. However, if we could work Elvis Costello or a Prius into it somehow, we might get some action.

What I think I love the most is that "Farting During a Show" went for 39 pages and "Everything I Know About Girls" went for 7.
