I'm due back there for a family wedding in November...yum

Something about the green sauce they add to their burritos keeps me coming back. If you haven't been, they're up and down Harrison Street and well worth a try. |

For a different kind of taco check out the La Palma Mexicatessen at 24th and Florida. Not really a taqueria but a deli/dry goods store. They make nice, thick handmade tortillas there. About $2.50 for a huge taco with beans in addition to the usual meat and salsa etc. Try the carnitas. Nowhere to sit and eat, but that's no big deal to me. |

Tecalitalan on Chicago Ave. near Ashland also gets my vote when I'm too far away from Jalisco. I love Chicago, you're never far away from some pretty da** good eats!!

I live around the corner from Tecalitalan. I love eating there. It is kind of a sit down place though. There are a few really good and fast taquerias around here. I really dig La Pasadita on Ashland just south of Division. They are open late too.
There is also the tamale guy that makes the rounds of all the bars in the Wicker Park area. Man they are good. Mmmm.

a. Is about half a block from my door.
b. Has good al pastor.
c. Is often open at post-gig hours.
For these reasons it's definitely among my favorites. |

Their green salsa is the best I've ever tasted.
And yes, I've eaten in Mexico! |

I know it's kind of pathetic, but I'm so happy to see my fellow Chicagoans REPRESENT (!!!) on the taco.
There is a reason why Chicago was voted "most obese" major city in a recent magazine article...many reasons. TASTY reasons.
My vote is Taqueria La Pasadita on Ashland and Cortez, Chicago, IL 60622.
Yes, yes y'all.
It' weird, but there are 3 La Pasaditas on the same block all owned by the same family (long story). My pick is the one with the yellow and black sign, furthest south. They have the Salsa Negra made with fire roasted Jalepeno peppers, and steak that has made me question my decision to be a vegetarian on numerous occasions...usually at 3am after a long gig...
Holy Shiznit! That's all I can say. I'm sure the stuff in Mexico City is a whole 'nuther level, but everything else I've had north of there, including California (WHAT-everrrrr!) doesn't match up.
The only thing I can't find easily, on every corner, in Chicago are good Tacos De Pescado, but I'm looking... |
