FRANCE: Need a Bass for a Week or So.

Anne Lieberwirth is going to be in La Rochelle for a week or ten days, vacationing with family, and would like to find a decent bass for practicing during the stay so that her week-long gig at the A Trane (Berlin) isn't on a week's hiatus. Anybody over there have some ideas?

Thanks!

Hey Ray,

Do you have an idea of when this week is going to be?

The easiest option, IMHO, would be to rent a bass locally. There's one luthier in La Rochelle, I can call him to inquire for availability, cost, etc.

The other option would be to drive to Poitiers or Bordeaux, and either rent or borrow a bass. I know two cats with spare basses in Bordeaux, but IIRC they're quite crappy.

Anyway, it's too late for phone calls now, I'll let you know if I find something tomorrow.

I'll be talking to Anne a little later today and will find out the dates, exactly.

Thanks!

I rented a nice large bass from a guy in Avignon, very reasonable price. But that's a fair way from La Rochelle.

You have to watch the school terms - rental basses are snapped up by the time the term starts.

I found my rental by putting an ad here:

Some of the basses marked for sale might be available for a short rental...

No joy in La Rochelle

Well, I called the luthier in La Rochelle, and unfortunately he doesn't have any rental basses.

But if Anne is willing to come to Bordeaux (that's a two hour drive), I'm quite sure that she could borrow a ply owned by one of my friends. I haven't been able to talk to him yet, but there shouldn't be any problem.

2 years ago i had contact with a luthier in Montpellier.
his wife is a bassplayer.
he is german, so if anne is too (what i guess) they could easily make contact.
Ray, i can send their phonenumber + email via pm if you want

Thank you all for the replies. I'll be checking back in as the date draws nearer. She's ended up a bit busy to sort this out right now.
