Post Gene Lees/Red Mitchell.

I provided this link of the Chapter "The return of Red Mitchell" from Gene Lees' book "Cats of Any Color" awhile back.
TB member standupright asked me some questions about Red's transition from 4ths to 5ths tuning, plus I get PM's asking the same.
Here it is one last time.
Hope it's not considered multiple posting by our mods, but I figured this would give everybody interested a shot. Also some political stuff from that period that, I hope, won't be considered an agenda because it ain't.
The chapter starts on page 143. The transition stuff starts on about 156.

Pure Red Mitchell.......http://books.google.com/books?id=nzx...age&q=&f=false

That's a great book, and not just because of the Red Mitchell content

There's an interesting section on Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra...

That whole book is wonderfully thought provoking and eye opening. I thought for a minute about starting a thread on the topic, but thought better of it when I realized I'd have to moderate the whole can of worms it would open....

Yeah, DURRL. I wouldn't touch that one witha ten-footer if I was you.

Gene don't mince no words.
Red don't either with his shots at Bottesini and Zimmerman.

Borrowed this one from the library some time ago... I'd read that stuff over again in a second. Another one I'd like to get is Art Taylor's book.
