how do I play .AVI files ?

Quick question I downloaded a video file but it is in .AVI and my windows media player only plays the audio no video. how can I watch it ? I have windows media version. 9.0 . Also when I try to open it with quicktime the progam just freezes. What can I do ?

You also may want to go into the Preferences menu for whatever media player you use; there should be a list of audio files listed somewhere in one of the sub menus and you just check off the ones you want the player to support (wma, avi,mp3, etc..)
