Nice buck...

27 more bow days in MO

I'm tired of ...getin' up early...caring which way the wind blows... non scented deodorant...hand washing clothes...etc.

Been a great season. I have nothing to show for it however. I had over 100 doe/small bucks and 7-140" plus within range...one being a Booner (170") . I'm not ready to shoot a doe yet but had my chance at these awsome bucks...just one of the joys of bow hunting...getting so close to them but not being able to take them home...

But that's what makes it "hunting" rather than just "killing."

So far I have had no luck. I could have taken several immature bucks but have only seen one good one and he completely faked me out. I had just arrived home from a morning hunt and walked into my living room. I glanced out the back window and there stood a BIG buck about in the edge of an 8-year-old pine plantation behind my woodshop. I grabbed my muzzleloader and slipped around the shop with my eyes fixed on the spot were I had last seen the deer. Meanwhile, he had moved out into the open and crossed a food plot not over 75-100 yards from where I was creeping toward the pine. We never saw each other and just passed like two ships in the night. However, my wife watched it all from inside the house. She made sure that all my little friends heard about this.

We have about 3 weeks of hunting left and most of that time is either sex. I hope to take two or three does for my year's meat, and with any luck one good buck will make an appearance.

I bet she loved every minute of that.

I have about 60 hrs of stand time this year which include 3 full-day sits. (got busted eating my sandwich one day) You would think I would be burned out by now...

Well the season just ended here for me because I won't get out this afternoon (darn day job). This morning was blowing snow and high teens, and not a creature was stirring. If the snow wasn't so crunchy I would have still-hunted aggressively, instead I had to sit and freeze. I got to see a few animals this year, but only one good buck well out of bow range and not interested in my calling attempts. Time to tune the bow for shooting at paper and foam. Anybody got a good tag soup recipe?

Good luck you guys.

The hunting spirits finally smiled on me this morning. I got a nice 8-pointer, my largest whitetail in 25 years of hunting.

I'll second that! Late season even, that's really something.
