1.Do I get points for posts already existing or just going forward?
2.How is it that there is an AI smart enough to glean substance from froth but not one smart enough to drive a car?
3. What's the difference between **** and sh*t to the Terminator? I mean, one is undedited, unexpurgated flow of consciousness (the way I talk) and the other is a conscious decision to modulate the way I talk for the acceptance of a larger audience. Are the both equal in the eyes of the machine? Cause I can switch to fornicating and fecal matter and regenerative organ etc. I'm not sure how that makes it better.
I guess we'll see how long I last under the new regime....
Oh and
4. Where do I get to see my score?

Ed - Paul's idea is that all profanity should be completely masked, as in:
"Wow, my bass smells like ****!"
"Oh, ****...who put the ****ing cat in the microwave again? Honey? Where's the ****ing 409 and scotchbrite pad stash? And just for the record, I think it's bull**** that I have to clean the microwave again this time. "
As far as the infraction system, it's mostly for the BG mods who have to deal with about 100 times as many people as we do, and a lot more of the adolescent "OMG!1!1!1! ***!1!1!1!" mentality. I personally do not plan to use it down here in DB anytime soon.
Time to get back to work. Bloody hell!
EDIT: at home with our 4-year old always within earshot, Kate and I are having big fun substituting terms like "maternal fornicationist" and "bovine stool" during those moments when we might otherwise resort to the actual unmitigated vernacular. Big fun for me and Mrs. DURRL, let me tellya. Thank god we can still say "booger", "pee-pee" and "poo-poo" at will...otherwise, how the matrimonial coupling are you supposed to raise a fornicating kid in today's world?

Ed, you'll survive the "new regime" even if we have to invent our own brand of pig latin. Maybe something based on the modes of the melodic minor scale.

True dat. My **** is getting OLD. He's a great kid, though, which helps. And I've learned that if I order a ****take mushroom sandwich, it keeps him from mooching off my lunch since he don't care much for toadstools...

It was a right of passage for me.
Also, I think four years old may have actually been yesterday, in my case at least. |

Maybe I should post it so the mods know how to do it??? | "Rebel With(out) A Cause", that was an interesting character study, don't you think? |

4. Where do I get to see my score? | Hi Ed, I'll try to answer your questions. I'm glad I caught this, best to use email if you want answers from me
1. No retroactive infractions will be given.
2. My car seems to drive itself well enough... Seriously, I think you're getting a wrong picture - there's no automation behind infraction-giving. The mod sees a post that breaks the rules, fills out an infraction form, and the system keeps track of the infraction by tracking 'points'. The system also sends you a PM automatically, detailing for which post the infraction was given, how many points you were given, when they expire, and a message from the moderator explaining why the infraction was given. The mods can choose to use the infraction system, or they can choose not to.
The 'points' are only so that if a user continues to blatantly break rules, they see their points go up, closer to a 'limit' at which they receive a 5 day temp ban or whatever. A consequence for repeat disregard for forum rules.
3. Our usage agreement requires profanity be completely masked. This is to keep out carefully crafted symbols that mimic letters, used to bypass the auto censor. If you want to mask your own profanity, please do so completely.
4. Your 'score', should you ever receive an infraction, will be visible in your profile. You'll also know if a moderator gave you an infraction based on the extensive report PM as detailed above.
Hope this helps
