iTunes issues

Anybody else notice how when you import anything, it changes the order of what you're importing to what *it* wants it to be? Is there a way to import an album into a playlist in the order in which it was originally presented?

I've noticed Windows Media Player does similar stuff. It's using something to order tracks by, it's just not apparent what. You'd think it would be something transparent to the user -- like "track number" -- but you'd be wrong...

How about if you go Edit>Preferences>Store and unclick the box that says "Automatically create playlist......" ?

I'm not sure if this is the answer you're looking for (your itunes might just hate you) but if you click the column heading "Track #" located above your music list, it will organize the tracks by the order they were on the CD. Sometimes "Track #" is not automatically available as a column heading (along with name, album, artist, etc) so you have to right-click (or control click on a mac) on row with the column headings and from there you can choose which column headings you want to see.

Also, if you want to create your own order (i.e. drag the tracks up or down), you can't have album, artist, or track number, etc selected for the organizing element. You have to turn it off by clicking the top left corner row, that is typically to the left of the "name" column.

Edit: Also, if you're talking about a playlist with multiple albums in it, the track number thing won't help you, in that case you want to organize by album and it should automatically have each album's tracks in order..

Thanks Kam - I never knew that menu even existed. So far it doesn't organize the tracks for me, but at least it shows what they originally were, which is a big help in and of itself.

It has only done that a few times, but once was two halfs of a Morton Feldman composition.
One thing you can do is put in the cd and not let it import, number each track:

1. Let it Be
2. Elenor Rigby

etc. even itunes wont argue with numbers. Then import it.
