jazz or classical

Just curious, when you guys first started playing the DB, did you start of with more or less classical training, or jazz style training?

For me, I started learning mostly classical technique, and still do. But when I'm not busy playing classical (w/ ensemble) I tend to work more on jazz stuff.

I started by studying classical. I was lucky enough to have some really good teachers who gave me an excellent foundation (I just never built on it!)

I never really "studied" jazz in any kind of a formal way -- I learned it mostly on the bandstand.
