meeting about Musician's Housing in NYC

from Connie Crothers

Hi everyone--

This is just a reminder that we'll be meeting in my loft, Sunday, beginning at 1:00, to talk about whatever possibilities exist that might enable us to actually buy one of the many condominium buildings, now empty and in foreclosure, in Brooklyn. A real estate lawyer will be present to give information and answer questions. There will be a report from Mossa Bildner from a consultation she had with a real estate lawyer. The objective of the meeting, besides getting important information about this, or any other possible venture of this kind, is to explore alternative approaches and, hopefully, to get the next couple of steps to explore this possibility.

Connie

475 Kent Avenue (between Division Avenue and South 11th Street), #410, Brooklyn, NY 11211. 718 302-4377.

Take any subway train to 14th Street, where you can get the L train to Brooklyn. Get out at the Bedford Ave. stop, the first one in Brooklyn. If you want to take a bus from the subway, leave the platform at the Driggs Ave. exit. Take the #61 bus, the only bus that stops there. The bus stop is in front of the pizza place. The ride usually lasts about 10-15 minutes. Get off the bus at Division Ave., turn right one block to Kent Ave., turn right one block to 475 Kent. It's that big, gray former warehouse building. The number on the door buzzer is 410. That means fourth floor, tenth unit. The door to the floor should be locked. Don't worry about it. I'll be right out.

Walking from the L train subway stop: Either walk west on N. 7th St. to Kent Ave., (3 blocks), then turn left and walk about 19 blocks to 475 Kent, or walk south on Bedford Ave. (walk to the left from the Bedford Ave. exit), turn right on Broadway, turn left on Kent Ave.

If you want to take a car from the subway, exit the station from the Bedford Ave.., exit. Turn left on Bedford, about two blocks. There is a car service there, Northside. The ride costs $6.00, tip could be $1.00.

By car or by taxi from Manhattan--get on the Williamsburg Bridge from Delancey St., in the right lane. Exit at the first exit, "Broadway-Staten Island." Go straight across the intersection. Go two block s to the next light (Division Avenue), Turn right. Go to the end of the street and turn right at Kent Avenue. 475 Kent is at the end of the block.

Ed, I didn't know such a thing was going on for you guys in NYC. Just to point something out, although likely that you already know about it cuz you're a smart cookie, if you guys are able to cobble something together, you should consider the whole co-housing concept. A musician co-housing project would be amazing.

Well I think that's what they're gonna be looking at. Connie was trying to organize to get the city to do something like Manhattan Plaza, cept in Brooklyn. But then Fate stepped in (pushed by Those Greedy Bastards) and it just may be possible to buy something outright rather than get the city to buy it and rent out space...
