PETERSBURG VA or THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA

I'm driving down to Augusta this weekend and have a Sunday night layover in Petersburg VA, anybody from around there?
Any jazz clubs? Can I buy alcohol on Sunday? In stores? At restaurants? Any sessions?

Any and all info will be appreciated.

Hmmm.
Just a quick Googling and it looks like there are acouple of jazz clubs/ restaurants that have jazz. But none on Sunday. In fact two of the joints aren't even OPEN on Sunday, which doesn't bode well for the Blue Law scene.

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

Petersburg is a fantastic little town. There are several world renown motor lodges there that have in room movies and vibrating beds.

If you are lucky they wont have run out of last weeks Doughnuts for morning breakfast.

Usually the in room entertainment with Rosie is the Truckers choice.

Can you stop in Richmond? Better fo sho.

PAPA TOED - yes and no. Richmond would cut an hour OFF the first day's drive but ADD an hour to the second day's. Petersburg is almost dead center between NYC and Augusta.

And in the decrepit days of my elderly old ancientness, I AIN'T gonna drive more than 6 hours in one day.

I guess it's one handed TV...

Don't expect to find too much happening on a Sunday. I live right next to Petersburg, and the hotels are not as Bad as
Mr. Toad implies, definitely cheaper than Richmond though.
A lot of historical stuff, if you're into that. Good restaraunts in Colonial heights (10 minutes away) Since this is only a Pit stop for you, I would say relax, old man, and take a walk around.

THANKS, SPEEDO - Since there ain't no room service at the TravelLodge, can I buy a bottle of wine on Sunday in that part of the world? All with an eye towards relaxing.

The fotos of Old Towne Petersburg look nice, I don't know how close thats' gonna be to where I am. I'll have my bass if'n you want to do some duos....

Are you really staying at a travel lodge? There are several nice hotels at exit 44 off of 95.If yer lookin' for something fancy to drink, the closest liquor store is on Crater road. Otherwise, you can get wine and beer at the supermarkets here. Also at Wal Mart!
In old town, you could check out Wabi-Sabi, sometimes there's some stuff going on there. I'd like to be your tour guide, but I'm playing a private party that night.

Oh well, maybe next time. I'm really staying at the TravelLodge, I'm trying to keep expenses under what I'm collecting for them if ya get my drift. I won't have e-mail or anything while I'm gone, but I'm doing the reverse trip a week later (overnight on the 22nd).
According to the website WabiSabi is open for brunch but closed for dinner Sundays.

Some pics from the concert. The photog took some WITH flash, so it looks like we're playing in a lunchroom, but it was a pretty nice venue....
