Spam increase recently

In the last month or so, the amount of spam that makes it through the filters on my Yahoo account has increased by a factor of about 10, and it's getting very annoying. I still get the regular spam that spam bots send through my website sent to my bulk folder, but all of a sudden tons of it is coming to my inbox as well. Is anybody else noticing the same thing? If so, what can you do about it? If not, what can I do about it?

Well, look at it this way. You should no longer have any doubts where to invest your money and all your problems in the bedroom are over.

All silver has a cloudy lining.

Yes it has been noticed where I work as well - it has been pointed out that the Spammers are using some kind of "random quote generator" to get past any filters - using bits of literature in some cases!!

So our IT people have mentioned how these circumvent any current Spam filters and the only way round it is for them to compile a huge database of IP addresses to block.

So all employees have been asked to forward all SPAM for a period of about 6 months - then they are going to block all those addresses!

It was quite reassuring to learn that my boss (who is a woman) is getting the same messages I do!!

..and I thought it was just me. I wonder if it has anything to do with AT&T taking over Yahoo cause I noticed a neverending beta version of the e-mail.

I've also tried Thunderbird (Mozilla). On the surface, it's really pretty but it's so darn clunky on my computer that I finally uninstalled it.

+1 on the Thunderbird Christ. I love Firefox but T-bird just doesn't work for me.

I've heard the Spamalot moan from many Yahoo users.
GMail is way better at Spam filtration; I get one spam per 50 emails, which is WAY better than my Telus account.

If anyone needs a GMail invite, let me know.

I've been seeing a lot get through spamcop.net, whcih I use to filter mail, and a lot more spam attacks on the forum I run at http://foldingkayaks.org. I think what's happening is that the volume of spam attacks is going up, with (among other things) new virueses that co-opt user machines and turn them into spambots.

Durrll,

This might be worth checking out. I don't know about expense, etc. but it certainly might lighten your load.

Spam on Browsers

AT&T taking over Yahoo. Too bad, but by the looks of the Yahoo browser it looks like it already happened.

Need look no further for spam, its right there on your browser in animation in a big block. It even says "Advertisement." Can't get rid of it either. This recent action prompted me to switch to the google browser. Much better, no big ads. Might be trying their email next.

A little off topic, but worthy of a vent.

Gmail has great anti spam measures. Plus its officially a free for all, you can now sign up for gmail without an invitation

Haven't tried this yet, but will when I get the time to get into it. Thanks!

So, how are we gonna block all the trolls? Seems to be an increase there, too . . .

Speaking of trolls........

I am only posting this so that I can say that I once posted down in the DB forums.

I will now go back up where I belong.
