Time to admit...

All right, I've been hanging around since 2003 not wanting to ask, thinking I might figure it out. When I became a supporting member I thought I might get the Talkbass Secret Agent Decoder Ring, but no. I've figured out the contextual meaning, but...

What the hell does "G.A.S." stand for?

I know I've got it, I should know what it means.

I had the exact same problem, but couldn't bring myself to ask. I found on the net it may mean 'Guitar Acquisition Syndrome'. Doesn't really make sense tho. Perhaps someone with inside knowledge could share?

GAS: n Common acronym for "Gear Acquisition Syndrome", a condition wherein an individual beleives that the acquisition of a better bass, bow, amp or pick-up will affect his or her performance in a positive manner. GAS occurs in varying degrees of truth.

Thanks for asking....I was afraid to ask....bing new to TB, and not wanting to sound like an idiot. Why don't they change it to "Crap I Want to Get"?

And because it sounds funny to say you have GAS for something.

Depends on how fat your wallet has been lately. It's not the song I've been singing. Mines been getting thinner but I also have an Epifani UL-110 on the way!

I couldn't contain myself. :P
