Toronto Jazz jams/gigs this weekend?

Hey bass buds,
I'm going to be up in Toronto from Friday though Monday and was wondering if anyone knew of any good jazz gigs or jams happening this weekend.

I'll be staying downtown and relying on public transportation for the most part.

Also, if anyone knows any good vinyl stores or ones to stay away from. I've got 5 or so lined up to see.

Thanks in advance for any info.

If you stick around until Tuesday night there's a jam at the Rex every week
I'm trying to head down and check out Robi Botos' band there on Friday night, should be a great show
Robi is one hell of a piano player

The Rex at Queen and University is a safe bet to see some of the jazz. As far as a jam goes, there isn't too many on the weekend, more of a weekday thing, Tuesday and Wednesday being the bigger ones. On Monday there is sometimes a jam at Tequila Bookworm at Queen and Bathurst, though I'm not certain about this week coming up. For vinyl shopping there is Sublime on Augusta and Dundas, tonnes of great jazz vinyl. There is also Paradise bound on the same street a bit north, and She Said Boom which is a on College at Augusta. There is another spot on Baldwin who's name escapes me, but Baldwin is a small street, its the only vinyl shop. On Saturday I am playing the Tranzac at 4pm and Tequila Bookwork at 9pm, so there is always that! Have fun, Toronto is a great town.

Toronto gigs

I'm playing Sunday at The Local on Roncesvalles, weekly gig for Elvis Bossa Nova!, a band that does Elvis tunes as latinish instrumentals with some other styles thrown in. www.sonicbids.com/elvisbossanova

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm busy Saturday night, but I'll try to check the Sunday stuff.

I wasn't aware of the Sublime shop you mentioned. I'm gonna check Cosmos, Kops, and Rotate This on Queen West.

The place on Baldwin is Around Again...I'll have to check that out since you mentioned it.

I'll be sure to introduce myself if I come by your gigs...thanks again for the info.

yes check out cosmos for sure, I have spent way too much money there over the years but it is really one of the best record shops I have been to in the world.

I enjoyed Toronto quite a bit and saw some good music and some great record stores and some nice "scenery" walking up and down Queen St.

I caught Robi Botos' band at the Rex. Cool place...it's nice when you go to a jazz gig and there are enthusiastic local people there.

Also saw Richard Underhill's group with Artie Roth on bass and a fantastic guitarist named Alex Goodwin. Artie sounded great as well as the rest of the band. This was at Chalker's Pub.

Some of the best vinyl stores I've ever been in by far, on par with L.A. and New York for sure. Cosmos was the best with Rotate This and Around Again almost as good. Did serious credit card damage at all of the above.

Thanks for the advice.
