Tragic Puter Crash

Hey, in case anybody wondered what happened to my big mouth.....my computer, as a result of some not being careful of what i'm downloading actions, has been infected big time with a virus. Pop up city!
Any way, i'm alive and will be back as soon as I can get this mother re-formatted.
Be careful what you download!!

...And you didn't stop to think there might be anything wrong with all that bass porn?

Seriously, that sucks. Hope you get it sorted.

Paul, I had sent you an e-mail with a question. Did you get it?

Sorry about your computer.

Get the AntiSpyware app from Microsoft ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en ) and install and run this a bit before you do anything drastic. It does a great job. Also get and install the Firefox browser ( http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ ) and you'll have far less issue with popup attacks.

At first I thought this was going to be another obituary--Putter Smith was killed in a crash.

I had the same problem a few months ago and received lot of good advice from some of our computer literate brethern. After trying a few different spybot-type things, I upgraded to Windows XP and completely reformatted the hard drive. Everything has ran smoothly ever since.

Ray's advice on the MS antispy stuff is worth heeding. It does work well.

I'll third the Microsoft Anti-Spy suggestion. Also, Ad-Aware is a free download http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ and catches things Microsoft doesn't. Be careful though, there's a program out there called Ad-Ware that does just the opposite so make sure you download the right one.

I've got Ad-Aware, Microsoft Anti-Spy, Yahoo Anti-Spy and Norton Anti Virus. Between them, i've never had a problem and I probably download more stuff than a lot of people.

I switched to Mac several years ago and have had no regrets. If you must remain in the PC world, then get a pop up blocker or just use one of the Mozilla browsers and set it to block pop ups.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Same with me, to be honest with you, i dont even have an antivirus since i changed to Mac, and despite some software limitations, my life has been easier.

hey Paul, you probably don't need to reformat. Feel free to give me a call if you want a hand getting it back to normal.

Home again

Well, I did have to re-format! As I told some of you on the PM side, this was a big,bad one. My computer pro said it was the worst infection he had ever seen. He said he'd never seen an attack so thorough....'twas prolly some piano player I had to yell at in the past.
Anyway, just wanted to thank you for the support and suggestions. Believe that I have so much protection now that I hardly have any memory left to function....
Thanks again my Dears.
