What is a "one-off" ?

Couldn't find it on Wikipedia. I assume it usually refers to a CD or CD-Rom. Any ideas?

Thanks

The way I've heard it used it usually means a "one time only" gig or event.

it's used in different contexts, but often in some form of publishing or another -- so in the case of CD production it would mean only one copy/master was made; it was not mass produced and distributed. Same thing with a book, magazine, brochure, print, painting, or just about any other media. Also used sometimes in web publishing -- where a big website might use a static template for all its pages (like this one), and populate them with different data, a one-off web page is custom made and "hard-coded".

I think this is a pretty old manufacturing term. If you're not setting up to produce a thing in any kind of quantity at all it'll be a unique product, one-of-a-kind, a "one-off".

+1 One off is a very generic term. It implies only one (or one run depending on context) of an object will be made.
