When walking on silk....

I am an ex-double bassist, who has recently purchased a erhu from China. It uses a 'German' method of bowing, (besides the fact that you bow between the strings.) As well, there are two methods for the tightness of the hair on the bow, some control it with the ring finger, while others will let it be controlled by the bow itself...

anyways...

does anyone have any suggestions for 'German' bowing methods on lighter strings without alot of freedom of bow movement?

just wondering if anyone had experienced similar situations...
