Picked up my Meatsmoke head today with my former student and bassist for Counterfist, Rodney Moore. First we went to Ben's shop and soaked up the mojo.

Then, off to see Russian Circles open for a couple of other bands. Afterward, we found them loading their gear in the U-Haul and rapped for a bit. Rod razzed Brian about playing an Ibanez back in the 90's with Botch and Dave the drummer from RC gave Brian a hard time over that. Later, all of RC was in the bar across the street and Ben arrived and we bought him a beer. What a night! Can't wait to give the Meatsmoke a run...more to report tomorrow. Off to bed now.

Silly question time. I own a Mesa M6 and love how articulate and bright it is. At times, I wish I could warm it up (aka SVT) a little. Messing with the EQ during a set isn't practical. I owned an SVT before the Mesa and am much happier with my M6, but still miss the really fat and scooped SVT tones for certain uses. As I await my MS Pre, my question is the following for MS Pre owners: Do you find that you are able to get a nice warm and fat tone from the pedal? I ask because I am considering buying a Catalinbread SFT or other small SVT sim, but don't want to waste the money if the MS can do it better. Thanks guys.

I don't think you'll have a problem dialing a fat tube tone... however, your ears may be different than mine

The MSpre is simply magical. Hold out on buying anything until it shows up and you get some time with it.

I had to play mine in a gig at loud volumes before I really heard what Ben was selling.

It really changes anything you feed into it, drastically. This is my first foray into tubey goodness, and it's amazing. Some of the B3 fuzzes and whatnot are kinda Meh, but when the Meatsmoke's in the mix it makes everything lovely. Going straight into my GK MB800, my tone was great but some of the effects just switched up colors too much. Now it seems like everything's almost in unison

Forgot to mention at last night's show the bassist for Coheed and Cambria was using the Meatsmoke Pre....I'll ask Ben for the review from him. Not sure if it was pedal or rack mount version....

Also Russian Circles had 4 Verellens up there but I couldn't tell how many were Meatsmokes, the guitarist Mike had two different-sized heads at least one MS. I wasn't close enough, certainly not close enough to see how C&C was using the MSpre...

Wow that must have been beautiful I gave Ben a link to our thread.

When I saw Russian Circles with C&C in Minneapolis, Mike had a Meatsmoke and I either a Louks or a Skyhammer (I forget already) on his side of the stage with a bunch of Emperor cabs. Brian had a Meatsmoke on his side with an SVT 810, but it looked like he was running an SVT 3PRO or something instead that night.

When I talked to him, he said the MS boost channel was pretty much his favorite tone ever, and basically the only thing he uses in the studio.

In other news, I just got home from band practice and I've totally had it with my Sansamp RBI. It sounds like ****ing balls. I can't wait to pack it away and replace it with some Meatsmoke.

I emailed Ben today asking when he thought the racks would start shipping out? He said "in a week or so". Not much longer buddy. Also, a foot switch is included with the rack

I hung out and got drinks with the RC dudes after their SLC set and talked a fair amount about gear with em.

Brian Cook is using a Meat Smoke into an Ampeg 8x10 AND an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro into an Emperor ported 4x10.

Mike Sullivan is now using a Meatsmoke and a Loucks into a pair of Emperor 4x12's on his side and a third 4x12 on Brian's side under his 4x10.

Brian said he talked the back-line company they use in Europe into ordering a Meat Smoke a while back so he could use it. They had a rehearsal when they got there and Mike was having gear issues so just for the sake of getting through practice Brian let him use the Meat Smoke. Mike ended up loving it so he continued using it and Brian just used an Ampeg for the rest of the tour. *sad expression on Brian's face*

Mike just uses pedals for his gain stacking anyways. So he likes a good loud clean-ish platform.

They also said that none of the other guitarists(possibly bassists) are even using amps on this tour. BTBAM and C&C were using modelers. And boy could you tell. After the sonic neck massage RC's set gives you in these larger venues, BTBAM & C&C's sound were sooooooo thin.

When I saw RC in Minneapolis a few weeks back, they definitely sounded the best of the 3 bands, but I just assumed that we because I got right up front for their set.

Thanks for the rig rundown. I didn't see the power light lit up on Brian's Meat Smoke, and I assumed he had just the 3PRO going.

We chatted a bit about his pedals and about how they had to cancel the last Winnipeg show, but I didn't talk to him much about his Verellen stuff. He seemed excited to try the preamps, and says the Meatsmoke boost channel is the best OD tone he has ever found.

How is the boost channel on the amp compared to the boost on the preamp pedal?

It could have just been the light bulb for the power light. Mine started flickering a little bit a couple weeks ago and wasn't quite so bright, a quick stop and it's back being super bright!
