[Audio Clip] What effect is this?

Sign in to disble this ad
The last few seconds of the clip has the bass soloed. It sounds like
some kind of synth or very light env filter + octave to me.

Does anyone know?

I'd be surprised if it was even a bass. The attack sounds artificial, and every note cuts off right where the next one would go, so it leads me to believe that it's a synthesizer programmed to play the part.

This bass sound carries through the entire song. Perhaps a keyboard bass synth is used for the entire song.

It sounds artificial coz of the attack, that's why i'm thinking if it was using a bass guitar, the effect would be a env filter tweaked to get that attack sound.

About cutting off, perhaps an effect (which i don't know what) was used to tweak the release so if you mute the string, the release is immediate and the note will get cut off. In order to do this I think the effect is definitely digital...

i'm interested to know how to get that sound, coz it does sound possible to get it on a bass guitar.

1 more clip - this is the intro

bass_effect_intro.mp3 - 0.68MB

so it's most likely no bass guitar is used in the song, just keyboards for the bass part.

It sure sounds like a keyboard to me, however I can approximate that tone with my Ibanez bass synth pedal...

I'm in the "it's a synth" crowd, probably midi programmed. If you're trying to fake that type of sound I'd say a filter and rolling back the tone knob on your bass will get you a good start. Muting the strings after each note will lend towards capturing the "playing" style.

It's definitely a synthesizer.
