Yeah, but can you do.

Anyway to be ever so slightly helpful:
Jazz-R&B I use nothing or a little compression, There are many choices.....................
Pop/Rock, depends on the song: OD, Fuzz, Tremolo, Comp, Wah

Virtuoso Solos or Slapping: I disapprove of this type of playing [most seem to use a chorus] For slapping [I almost never slap] I use a filter.....

You have to understand that what you are asking for is somewhat akin to saying, "I'm hungry, recommend me a restaurant." In order to answer that question, someone would want to know your price range, what style of food you are hungry for, where you live, if it's a date etc

Same thing here. Otherwise all you'll get is people listing what works for them in the vague categories you've given. If you want that from me, here goes:

Jazz: No effects. At most a reverb if I'm playing a fretless.

RnB: Personally I'd want an octaver. Depending on the actual music, maybe an envelope filter.

Pop Rock: This one is almost too vague to even answer. Maybe overdrive, but who knows?

Virtuoso solo or Slapping: A compressor.

If you can be more specific and/or give more details of what you want then you'll get a lot more help. But if you really don't know anything about effects but are sure you want to delve into that world, then perhaps a reasonably priced multi-fx is for you. At least by playing with it you could find out what you actually do want.

Actually, I think it's closer to going on an art forum and saying "I would like to paint a painting in each of the following styles:

Abstract expressionism
Surrealism
Modernism
Stuckism
Dadaism

What colors should I use for each of these styles?"

To be somewhat helpful, here is a better way to approach this:

1) Get a multi-effect. It doesn't matter too much which one. Buy it used so you don't lose any money when you sell it. Use this to find out what sounds are interesting in your music.

or

2) Consider what sort of sound you'd like your bass to make in a particular tune. Then you can ask a better question: "what effect can I use to make my bass sound like it is underwater and angry and made entirely out of rusty metal?" or, you know, whatever you're looking for.
