[Need] Advice on OD/Distortion pedals

Okay, so, I'm on a budget pending what cabinet I buy in the near future. I'm looking to keep cabinet + distortion/OD setup in the <$200 range. I'm thinking I might pick up a Peavey 2x10 nearby for $175/$150 tonight, depending on if I hear from the dude...

Anyways, I'm not sure what budget I'll be looking it, I'm hoping $50 range. The tone I'm looking for? I'd say an Epiphone Valve Junior run flat out with a Sovtek 12AX7 in the preamp through it's matching cabinet. (This was my old dorm amp.)

Now, I know I can't do this with a pedal. I don't have any sound clips of it on hand, but I'm thinking I'll be using an SX PJ for the next long while. My amp will be a Kustom Groove Bass head. I'm looking for a ballsy distorted tone where you still get the in your face middy-goodness of the bass. (For the song I need this for, it's a picked, for now that is, Motorhead-like riff.)

Anyways, I'm about to run out and check out the cabinet and a head, but I'd appreciate it a lot if you guys helped me refine my search.

So we have <$50 to work with then? And that has to cover S/H too (if you get it on-line/ebay)?

Hmm .. maybe a used Bad Monkey? Or solder a couple of diodes across the output of a boost or a comp or something?

Scratch that actually. I got a new (used) head and cab both so I'm out all of my spendin' monies for a while.

Old Crate BT350 head + Peavey 210 TX. That's my new jam/band setup. (The fit in the trunk of my Civic rig!)
