¿Some more Gain?

Sign in to disble this ad
I usually am only on the DB side of things but I am playing some shows on all bass guitar and am looking for some advice. I am plugged directly into the mix without an amp and I was wondering if someone could point me into the right direction of a pedal that would just give me a little more gain or presence on a couple songs. I am playing a Fender Jazz Deluxe Active bass and I think it has a preamp on it already that I can adjust but am just looking for something I can turn on and off. Hope I am not too vague or sound like too much of a novice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

The cheapest / most ubiquitous option would probably be the Electro-Harmonix LPB-1 if all you need is a gain boost.

There are tonnes of more expensive boxes with fancy preamps included. The Tech 21 SansAmp is still king of them.

Aye, it seems you would benefit most from a bass DI such as the Sansamp BDDI, Aguilar ToneHammer, or MXR M-80 Bass D.I. They are a must if you are going right into the sound board. They all have some nice grind to them as well. The M-80 has a distortion side which sounded pretty nice to me when i tried one out today. I love the Sansamp Para Drive as well for some awesome tone shaping grit.

thanks for the replies. After scoping it out it looks like I am leaning towards the Aguilar or the Sansamp PDDI. Ill have to look some more for more info. It also seems like the Sansamp might be more useful on the upright for jazz gigs also.
Thanks again.

+1 on the PDDI.

It has an input impedance of 4.7 Mohms.
That should be a plus for the DB.

And it sounds great

EBS Micro Bass II is another option. Little bit more expensive though.

Try the MXR M-80 and the SansAmp ParaDriver - though I think the MXR sounds much better than the SansAmp, it's up to you.

Tone Hammer or some form of Sansamp. The TH is very clear with a nice EQ, the SAs on the other hand, add some colour

True but if you are looking for transparencey then the TH wins hands down.
