18V power adapter

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm currently bidding on a Danelectro Cool Cat pedal on the bay right now, but the seller doesn't have an 18V adapter. I did a search on here, but didn't see anything really useful. I've been searching everywhere for an 18V single adapter, but can't find them anywhere. Since this will be the only 18V pedal I'll own, and I've already got power supplies for all of my 9V pedals, I just don't see the point in spending $80-$200 for a 10-output power supply if I'm only going to use one of the outs. Anyone know where I could find one?

Also, as a totally random side-question, could I use this:
Y-Splitter
connected to this:
18V Y-Cable
to power it off of a 9 V adapter?

You could get one of these:

http://www.effectpowersupplies.com/1...supply-7-p.asp

It's got a UK plug though so you'll need an adaptor.

They're not hard to find... not sure why you're having problems. You could easily order one from Dunlop. And anyone who sells Dunlop pedals can easily get one for you. You could even bug Danelectro dealers or Danelectro itself.

Also... if you know the specs, it's not hard to find a replacement outside of the ones made by pedal manufacturers. So far, you know that it's:

- 18VDC
- Regulated

Find out what barrel plug size and polarity it uses, and you're good to go in your quest for finding a third-party replacement. It's most likely a 2.1mm barrel, center-negative, like most 18VDC pedals I've seen.

Or, you could get the Godlyke Power Pump, which attaches to any plug on your daisy chain and allows you to deliver 18VDC to a singe pedal.

On a side note... what pedals are you using now? And are you really using a wall wart for EACH of them?

There are far easier, space-saving solutions that really don't cost much...

That'd be a lot of money wasted to achieve absolutely nothing.

The reason why Voodoo Lab calls it an 18VDC Y-Cable is because you're supposed to use it with their power supply (the Pedal Power 2+). Because the outputs on the PP2+ are isolated, linking two together produces 18VDC. The Y-cable can't do this by itself - it's just wires and plugs.

He could get a much cheaper solution here in the States. There's no need to import anything - it's all readily available here.

Danelectro doesn't make the DC-2 18V adapter anymore(or at least doesn't have it listed on their website). I've already checked all three music stores that I know about here in town, and none of them carry 18V adapters.

I know it's 18V regulated, center-negative, but I can't find anywhere that lists barrel size.

After my original post, I found one of these on Godlyke's website, but it costs $25 plus shipping, and I'd have to buy another 9V adapter, so it would end up costing me almost $40. I'm still looking for a cheaper alternative.

I'm honestly a Danelectro junkie...I've currently got 12 Dano pedals(complete list on my profile if you care, and a slightly outdated pic here). Of course, I'm not stupid enough to run each pedal off of it's own adapter. 5 of them are on a Dano DC-1 9V adapter with a daisy chain(got it for free), and the other 7 are on a 1-spot with a 7 plug daisy chain(brand new for $15 off of the bay)

Dude, you don't need another 9VDC adapter. In fact, you should be able to run ALL of your pedals on JUST the 1-Spot!

I know I should be able to run all of them off of the 1-spot, but when I hook both daisy chains up to it, only the first one on the adapter works. I haven't been able to figure out why, but since I already had both adapters, I just use them both. Another problem is that I'm building myself a pedal board that's going to have 3 sections, and I wanted to power each section individually to cut down on the amount of cables running all over the board. Now that I'm thinking about it though, I'm going to have to buy another 9V adapter anyway for the 3rd section, and because the Cool Cat I'm bidding on also comes with a Grilled Cheese distortion.

Edit-I finally found a picture of the Dano 18V adapter that was clear enough to read. It's 18V, 150mA, center neg. Still can't find out how big the barrel plug is, but I'm pretty sure that this will work, so I'll probably just pick it up when & if I win the auction.

It's rare that they'd use a 2.5mm barrel for a pedal like that, so you should be okay with the Dunlop one you're looking at.

Thanks for the help boo. I found a guy on the bay selling a Cool Cat with an adapter, and asked him. He sent me a pic of the specs from the adapter box. It is a 2.1MM barrel, so the dunlop is perfect as a replacement.

I have a Cool Cat Chorus and my 18v adaptar stopped working (i putted it aside, and now i don't even know where it is). So i have the same problem, what is the possible cheapest solution to this? I live in Europe (not UK).

I bought a dunlop 18 volt adapter to use with my Ibanez AD-80 but also works with my Dano cool cat chorus. I hope this helps.

Is it the same one that I linked to earlier in the thread? If it is, good, since both that and the Cool Cat are on their way to me right now. Ohh, and Boo? You're right. Not even you read this thread too closely. The one in post # 2 is a UK plug, and farewelltowards doesn't live in the UK.

Just poking fun for the fun of it.
