I recently got the EHX Freeze and it is a lot of fun, but it takes a fair amount of getting used to and coordination to use well.

What kind of stuff do you enjoy playing? Are you in a band?

The Freeze does sound like fun (I'm really GASing for one, but there are other pedals I know I need first.)

What do you have for pedals so far?

What styles of music do you like to play?

If you don't have a tuner, I highly recommend one. Also, the EHX Nano Bassballs looks like lots of fun too (if you're into the styles it goes with, your signature indicates that you might be).

Edit: that's the rough equivalent of $210 US for the reference of those who may want to know.

The Bassballs is brilliant for just messing around with and if you crank the volume and play softly (so that the filters don't open much), it gives a really nice fuzz sound that is very useable.

A tuner is a good idea, as is looking around on the For Sale section on here, and the For Sale section over at BassChat if you are in the UK ( like me )

the freeze is really cool - I had one for a bit, but didnt find myself using it a heck of a lot, especially in a band.

My advice for that cash is get yourself a used EHX Bass Microsynth (set you back around £100 for the old one on basschat classifieds) - sure it'll do so much, and at minimum its a pretty cool octaver, or a pretty cool distortion, or a whole mess of things.

And then you've still got £35 to put towards an overdrive or something (the digitech bad monkey seems to get alot of love for bass and I saw a bass-modded one on BC for a reasonable price just the other day.)

I recently purchased an EHX freeze, and found it to be useful for playing chords in the higher registers of my instrument and freezing them. This creates a sound that is almost exactly similar to that of a keyboard playing pad. It takes a little practice to get used to playing the freeze right though (if you use sloppy technique, the freeze picks up an awful neverending fret buzz sound until you freeze again.)

If you're wanting to find a different sound, I've been doing some spacy, echo type things lately with an EHX Nano Small Stone phaser and my delay pedals.

The EHX Bassballs, IMHO, is a bit of a one trick pony. If it's filter funkiness you want, I would suggest getting one of the Q-Tron family, or something similar, for more versatility.

From what I've read and seen, I'd think twice about the Bass Blogger. I haven't really heard anyone who actually likes it.

a fuzz into an OC-2 is a really fun combo, I used a bass big muff to start off with... both those pedals would fit right into your budget.

Second this. I bought one from the TB ads here, gave it three strikes, and resold it pretty quick. Not impressed at all.

If you want a cheap fuzz, look at the EHX Bass Big Muff.

I had mixed feeling about the Blogger:

(+)It is versatile - it is two effects for the price of one, and its a pretty low price too.

(+/-)I though the overdrive sounded like ass on its own, but actually sounded like the magic glue between guitarist and drummer in a mix. a big fat farty overdrive...yeah i mean that in a good and a bad way.

(-)The distortion was kinda muff-like not really bad, but really not that special.

(-)It needs it own power supply (Silly rabbit, Trix are for Line 6)

If you can narrow down whether its the idea of light overdrive or the heavy fuzz you wanted out of the blogger, then maybe we can make some suggestions.

As already mentioned:
Digitech bad Monkey (off the top of my head)
Bass Big Muff

will cover either side of the spectrum for you.

Had the Bass Blogger. One day, back in the box for a return, just not a great representation of EHX, IMO.

I use only 4 effects. Chorus, MXR Bass Octave Deluxe, MXR Bass Envelope Filter and OD. OD and Chorus are great, but fill specific needs.

The MXR BOD and Bass Filter don't necessarily fill a need, but are a blast - I run the Octave into the Filter and really, some funky, fun as hell stuff. And they are top notch IMO. And once I click both of them on, I have a hard time putting down the bass!

So I guess, then my suggestion for pedals, long way around, are the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe and the MXR Bass Envelope Filter
