2 Sansamps?

Not sure if Im going to be punching the dead horse with this question but has anyone tried using a sansamp RBI with a sansamp BDDI?

I ordered a sansamp RBI and currently have a BDDI, but Im wondering if with the 2 of them I could get a really solid overdrive out of the 2? I want to do that instead of ordering a separate overdrive pedal so if any of you have any advice it would be great!

Also I have a mesa buster bass 200, it sounds REALLY dry and not very warm tube like by itself, is this normal out of a tube amp?

I'm trying to get a really solid overdrive like the tone from "pet" by a perfect circle..

The Mesa Buster is an all-tube amp, but doesn't "overdrive" much. But, I'd hardly say it's not "tubey" sounding. Many folks think all out power tube grind describes tube tone, but that's just one aspect. Buster runs clean, almost all the way to full gain by design, yet has a very full, rich, harmonic quality that you only get from tubes. Can't answer your Sansamp question, but stacking o/d's *can* multiply the drive, but it depends on how the circuit is designed. You may be wanting a distortion or fuzz pedal by the sounds of it. good luck.

I'm playing around with two sansamps, a paradriver and a BDDI but I'm running them in parallel instead of serial. I like the results with running them in parallel. There's nothing wrong with running them they way you describe, but I'd be afraid of too much Sansamp character in the combo.

What exactly do you mean by parallel? Do you mean 1 in the effects loop and one in the front?

So it is normal for the buster 200 to not overdrive easily? Just a clean tone throughout the output? Sorry this is my first tube amp and I guess I was expecting an overdrive to be easy.

In parallel - parallel output of one into the input of the other and then I'm blending the two back together with the two inputs on my MarkBass Tube 800.

I only have 1 input on the front.. would a "Y" jack yield the same result?

The sansamp RBI also has an effects loop on the back, maybe I could add the second one into the effects loop and blend it in?

Essentially I wanna get a really good overdrive going but don't know where to start.

you wont need to go too much in depth with what you want.

sansamp has horrible, fuzzy overdrive made to do one thing... warm up the sound of anything before it. its best kept at a low level.

try a tubescreamer type overdrive. any one will do. I picked up a GFS Greenie Classic myself it always gets me a nice overdrive without pushing it too hard.

actually, since most clubs are running bass DI anyway, I use my tubescreamer before a sansamp... then the sansamp gets run both into the PA and into a poweramp + 1x15 cab I use as a monitor.

of course, you could try boosting the input level on your amp... simply by running the sansamp (clean and flat EQ) before it and turning it up. it should push your preamp tubes and overdrive a bit, but I have no idea how a mesa buster works.

A boost pedal will do the job, to an extent. The Buster won't OD much on its own, but you can push the input harder for preamp-stage OD.

A good dirt pedal is a better choice though, because there are so many different flavors to choose from these days.

I wouldn't expect good results from two Sansamps in series, but hey, try it--you never know.

I don't think that's a great idea on running 2 of them together. Much easier to get you a OD pedal. Try the Way Huge Green Rhino - it's awesome and you can dial in just as much as you want - from barely any to full-on distortion or fuzz.
