3500 for a STROBE TUNER

So I was browsing the for sale / clearance section of musicians friend when I came across this...

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...ner?sku=210015

3500$ for a tuner. Tell me this is a misprint, an extra 0. AND STILL at 350 for a tuner it sounds ridiculous. Can someone enlighten me as to the benefits of a tuner like this... Studios came to mind...

But I've recorded in about 4 different studios, and been to probably a dozen or more and never have I encountered a device like this. Most of them had rack tuners... korg usually... and a couple of behringers... and a fender... but these are 100 120 dollars tops...

What benefit does this have over some of the tuners I mentioned above...

That is not really for players. It's for luthiers. If you want a strobe tuner get one of these.

This tuner is very hard to use, so I do not reccomend it for guitar players.
I wonder what the guy means by that

Back in ye olde dayes, strobe tuners only came in that large and very expensive format, and they were the only super-accurate tuners available. Everything else was much less accurate. So a guitar tech would invest in such an expensive tuner because it would be a way of ensuring the best intonation jobs, which would get them repeat business.

Times have changed. Now you can get a SR Turbo Tuner with super high accuracy for $130, or a Strobostomp if you want to overpay, or even a VST strobo for your laptop, and get equally good results.

We had one of those in our high school band. I'm sure they're still using it.

But I downloaded a $10 app on my iPhone that does the same thing.

If you look over to the right, they have a couple of $600-$800 dollar models too.

The thing with this is it doesn't just tune the fundamental, you can also see how in tune all the harmonics are. Basically its useless for a string player, but for a brass player or someone looking for 99.9999% accuracy these things are the way to go.
