3band comp/drive/eq

Eqs, compressors and overdrives are all equivalent. It should be possible to make a pedal that can smoothly transition between all three. It would have three bands of compression that can be overdriven and boosted as desired.

If the overlap frequencies could be controlled then that would give a huge variety of sounds.

There are some analogue pedals (like the drive made by T-Rex) where you can switch between different settings (a computer controls motorised knobs). That would enable you to make use of all the variety in the pedal.

If I had such a thing, it would pretty much suit all my needs (except an envelope filter).

Does anyone know of such a thing? Is there some reason why it would't be possible?

They are? Seems like they're each their own thing.

Well, you can overdrive a compressor and an overdrive can add compression. If your overdriving compressor has three bands each with a volume controls then you have a 3-band EQ.

I still maintain that they're three separate things. If they were really equivalent then there would be no need for all three to exist.

It's gray... Chorus and Flanger are the same thing, yet there are valid reasons for each to be packaged and specialized for one or the other.

I think the main reason you don't see more of this sort of combination device in a hardware format is because it is so difficult to select an overdrive, a compressor, and an EQ that all have the sound and specific features any one person wants. And the more processing power and hardware knob/switch controls you include, the higher the price.

Get an Aguilar Tone Hammer for 3-band EQ and overdrive and get a good compressor pedal (Demeter, EBS, Diamond, BBE).

It's tough to have all of these in a pedal and have all 3 functions be good. IMO
