3DPT Wiring Help

Sign in to disble this ad
Sup gangstas.

I ordered a 3dpt switch, and I need some assistance. Looking around the Internetz, I found some wiring diagrams like so:

That would be so extraordinarily helpful that I wouldn't even need to post this thread... except the whole "180-degree rotational symmetry" thing that those pesky rectangles have is throwing me for a loop.

My default assumption is that each of the nine connectors has a specific purpose, so the orientation of the switch is highly important. However, diagrams like the one shown above don't indicate what the orientation of the switch is (say, with respect to a logo or some other symmetry-breaking feature). FWIW, my switch DOES have a logo ("Cliff"), so I would like to know how the logo needs to be oriented for the above diagram to be valid and not have to rotate it.

Thanks.

As long as the lugs are long-side horizontal (i.e. the eyes of the lugs are facing up and down, NOT side-to-side), then it works the same way. so in other words, a 3pdt switch will work the same exact way upside down. The way I always look at it is that the middle 3 are always connected to either the top 3 or the bottom 3, via stepping on the switch. If the lugs are oriented such that the long side is vertical, then just flip that idea on its side.
