You'll probably dig this then too... FINALLY had time to sit down and revamp my board(s). Now it's time to actually give the PWNZOR and Proton a real spin. Looking forward to rehearsal with them tomorrow!
"Main" board: The big tribal one in the middle is a custom Death Is Gain / Shape EQ from Fromel. Thought it was fitting to put it on there with the two new 3Leaf gems, what with the Fromel case art on them and all. As a sidenote, the art on the Fromel is in fact a cross section of the tribal 3/4 sleeve tattoo I got not too long ago.
Just so you know the GR2 is still getting some love, it's on the 2nd board. I'm still scratching my head on that one though... somehow it ended up all overdrive and envelope (with a token octaver for good measure). lol
5sg.
TU-3 > Proton > Fromel > PWNZOR > VT Bass
Hot Rod > TU-2 > Bass Octave Deluxe > EP2 > Blue Tube > Flipster > GR2 > Multicomp > B3K > BDDI
That's exactly the sound I'm looking for out of my GR2. What are your settings?
I'm not exactly sure, but I'm thinking it's pretty close to what is in the pic - here's a close up:
So Sensitivity: 2:00, Attack 10:00, Decay & Tone both at about 2:30. I probably had the mix where it is too, right in the middle. I think the range switch is set to Lo. I had the volume on the bass (Ibanez SR506) set around 7, both pickups on full (blend in the middle), all EQ knobs flat. Played with fingers on this one I'm pretty sure.
I put up another track on SoundCloud - this time with the Z Vex Mastotron in the effects loop. Pretty much same bass and settings as before (see post above).
Another reason to get a GR-2! I use the GR-1's effects loop but use a Boss LS-2 to use everything in there. Cool thing is my GR-1 now act like a mute as well. And of course it's worth having any fuzz, dirt, OD and octaver in the effects loop....
Spent more quality time with my PWNZOR last night. Here's a few more observations:
The clean gain on this pedal really stands out, and I'm not too sure why. Borrowing a word guitarist typically use: it just sparkles.
As expected, the PWNZOR works excellent with 3Leaf filters. Have my Proton set to 'quack attack' and was having trouble taming the peaks with the EBS MComp. The PWNZOR tames it much more effectively.
Alright, one minor flaw. The LED is misleading because it is affected by viewing angle. I typically keep my pedalboard off to the side of my left foot so all my pedals are seen from the right side. From this viewing angle the LED was was flashing bright red. Well, last night I had my board on my right side and wasn't seeing the LED turn red athough I could hear the compressor acting. After taking a closer look the LED seemed to be working as expected, then I stood up again and could barely notice any change in color even with settings cranked to hard compression. Looking even closer I noticed the illusion was caused by the way the two color LED is constructed. Viewing angle will affect how much red light overshadows green light. Something to keep in mind when adjusting the input threshold, especially in a loud room where it is difficult to hear the difference of subtle compression.
